Yonhap News Agency: U.S. 'very transparent' with THAAD deployment in S. Korea: Pentagon spokesman

WASHINGTON, May 30 (Yonhap) -- The U.S. Defense Department said Tuesday it has been "very transparent" in its deployment of the THAAD missile defense system to South Korea, after President Moon Jae-in expressed frustration and ordered an investigation into how additional launchers were brought in without his knowledge.

"We continue to work very closely with the Republic of Korea government and we have been very transparent in all of our actions throughout this process," Pentagon spokesman Navy Capt. Jeff Davis told reporters.

Earlier in the day, Moon said it was "very shocking" to learn that the Defense Ministry failed to report to him that an additional four launchers for THAAD have been brought into the country in addition to the two that had already been installed.

Moon also ordered a probe into the matter.

Previous Post: South Korea Leader Shocked That He Was Not Informed On U.S. Missile Expansion

WNU Editor: The U.S. is not going to unilaterally deploy THAAD missile defense systems in any country unless they get that country's approval. So why is the South Korean President shocked? I think this is an internal problem within South Korea. He is a new President .... and I think the South Korean military decided that they should not bother him with all the details. He clearly has a different point of view .... and he has made it clear today that wants to know everything. There is a second explanation .... forwarded by someone who commented on my earlier post .... that the South Korean President was in the loop .... and this is all for show. I am not sure about that .... but it would also not surprise me.

Hey, if they don't want our help, I am totally OK with saying sayonara and leaving the South Koreans to the tender mercies of their northern brethren.
