U.S. Justice Department Appointing A Special Counsel To Probe Russian Interference In The U.S. Presidential Election

Washington Post: Deputy attorney general appoints special counsel to oversee probe of Russian interference in election

The Justice Department appointed a special counsel Wednesday to investigate possible coordination between President Trump’s associates and Russian officials — a clear signal to the White House that federal investigators will aggressively pursue the matter despite the president’s insistence that there was no “collusion’’ with the Kremlin.

Robert S. Mueller III, a former prosecutor who served as the FBI director from 2001 to 2013, has agreed to take over the investigation as a special counsel, Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein announced. The move marks a concession by the Trump administration to Democratic demands for the investigation to be run independently of the Justice Department. Calls for a special counsel intensified after Trump fired FBI Director James B. Comey last week.

WNU Editor: After almost one year of claims of Russian collusion with the Trump campaign .... I have yet to see any evidence of such collusion .... and no .... talking to a Russian official is not evidence of Russian collusion .... Trump campaign had at least 18 undisclosed contacts with Russians: sources (Reuters) .... because if it was all of Washington would be under indictment. And while there is almost universal support for this appointment .... Saved by a Special Counsel (Robert Schlesinger, US News and World Report) .... my prediction is that with time this will morph into investigating other claims that have been levelled at the U.S. President, become a talking point for those who are against President Trump to claim that he is under investigation, as well as continuing the claim that this is why Hillary Clinton lost. And speaking of Hillary Clinton .... if she was the President does one really think she would ever support the appointment of a special counsel .... I doubt it.

I do not think the newly appointed Trump Attn General would appoint this man for special investigation if there were not some indication that there is something worth investigating. Clearly, if Trump et al clean, then this will be an objective issue; on the other hand, etc. The work is going to go on for some time, and that will allow the GOP to put in place their agenda without any distractions about a Russian issue. Why not, then, simply wait to see what takes place?

Fred, in the past a Special Counsel was always appointed when there was real evidence that something was wrong .... and then it becomes a legal AND political decision to appoint one or not. In this case .... I do not see any evidence .... but I do see a desire among many to find evidence of wrong doing. But you are right Fred .... let the process proceed and let the chips fall.

Bill Clinton impeachment 2.0, just replace the opposition democrats for the then opposition republicans. Media once again driving it all, ignoring the "high crimes and misdemeanors" part of the constitution again. A great circus to distract us from the fact that the government/media complex is unwilling to accept the will of the people as expressed under the constitution. I think it is time for a convention of the states to put an end to this dysfunctional cabal.

/There's a rumor that Mueller was muttering the name, "Seth Rich" over and over as he entered the office.

Dear Anon:

suspicions always aroused when someone cloaks identity. Are you a Russian troll? That said, it remains NOT for the media but for duly elected legislators to decide to impeach or not...or obstruction of justice...or unfit...the will of the people resides within Congress and the Senate, not the media.

Republicans had the House and Senate during Clinton's impeachment in the House and aquittal in the Senate.

In this case, Impeachments not on the table, Republican's have both houses.

BTW, there's already a program in place for a Constitutional Convention.

The fun part about embracing conspiracy theories, is people can't just embrace one. Before long, their whole lives are filled with conspiracy theories.

You should try becoming a Soverign Citizen, I understand it's very freeing.

Evidence is admissable in Court, allegations are not.

The FBI Investigation into EMail's leaked allegations like a sieve, affected the election, and wound up empty.

The FBI Investigation into Trump/Russia, has't leaked. Any evidence they have is between the FBI, the Justice Department and soon, the Special Counsel.

AG's don't appoint Special Counsel's with out there being some evidence in the case.

LMFAO,

It's only a weak attempt at irony, if you believe the Rich Conspiracy,

If you don't believe in the Rich Conspiracy, then it's an attempt at snark or
Sarcasm that only wingnuts would get.

You should get yourself a dictionary and maybe a companion thesaurus

Oh - and I do think the murder of Seth Rich is delicious conspiracy food. I think if you get to the bottom of his murder, you'll find a whole lotta Democrat dirty laundry looking right back at you.

Assange as much as admitted he was the source during a Dutch TV interview. Assange offered up a $25K reward for info on his murder. The wikileaks email dump cam just 12 days after Rich's murder. His murder was reported as a robbery, but still had his wallet and watch. Local DC police were told to stand down their investigation. And it goes on.

/so yeah, I'll roll around in this and get all sticky. ;)
