Al Jazeera: German FM blasts 'Trumpification' of Qatar-GCC dispute

US dangerously stoking tensions and a new arms race among Middle East neighbours, Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel says.

German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel accused US President Donald Trump of stirring up conflicts in the Middle East and risking a new arms race as Qatar's neighbours cut ties with Doha.

Saudi Arabia and allies including Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain announced Monday they were severing diplomatic relations and closing air, sea and land links with Qatar.

The dispute comes less than a month after Trump visited Saudi Arabia and called for Muslim nations to unite against "extremism".

WNU Editor: Qatar has been having disputes with its neighbours for years .... and long before President Trump entered politics. To blame President Trump for this conflict is a stretch. But this year is an election year in Germany, and being anti-Trump is seen as a positive. Hell .... German Chancellor Merkel could not even resist today on her trip to Mexico .... Angela Merkel condemns 'putting up walls' during Mexico visit (The Guardian). Memo to German Chancellor Merkel .... Mexico has one of the highest crime/murder rates in the world .... and you better believe that the U.S. is deeply concerned on what is happening south of the border. Her country is surrounded by some of the most peaceful and prosperous nations in the world .... so who is she to lecture to? If she is so committed to open borders .... she should admit 5 million from Mexico .... after-all .... the U.S. has admitted numbers that are way-above that.

The Saudi/UAE 24 hour "ultimatum's" passed,

Qatar's picked up Turkey and Iran in it's corner,

The Pentagon and State still can't make Little Big Boy to shut up and not make things worse,

and Yemen shows, that the Saudi's and UAE can't "fight", all they can do is inaccurately bomb stuff.

Should be fun.

Jay. The GCC's leverage is economic not military. Qatar is going to buckle because of that. I also pity the 11,000 U.S. servicemen and women who are there .... the blockade will be hurting them soon. My guess .... standard MRE rations and water for the next little while.

The Saudi's pull is they control the land border with Qatar.

The Saudi/GCC pull, is they provide airspace for Qatari Comercial flights.

Turkey, Iraq and Iran have offered their airspace.

Iran and Iraq have offered dhow shipping for fruits and vegtables, and Container shipping routes.

Qatar's economic pull is they supply the UK, EU, Japan and China with much of their natural gas, and act as a Banking/Financial hub tor the Middle East.

Remenber when Crown Prince Salman said Hadi's appointmentvwould bring peace and stability to Yemen?

Or how Assad would be gone by Christmas, 2013?

Or how the UAE/Saudi Alliance would defeat the Awakening Movement in mere weeks?

I know about the Iran and Turkey offering assistance .... but it is not cost effective. That is the only leverage that Saudi Arabia has .... and it is a good one. There is a glut in natural gas, and money can easily flow out of Doha. Not much real leverage there. The other scenarios are wars and conflicts .... but it is not applicable here. There is going to be no war .... regardless of what the German foreign minister may warn about.

We'll see,

Prince Salman's not stable.

Jay,
Maybe it is because of their age. But sometimes Prince Salman reminds me of Kim Jung-Un. He spirited the adventure in Yemen against the advice of many .... and that is not working out.

It's not just Yemen, there aas the Austerity, then Austerity flip, picking fights with the Shia minority in al-Masoura by razing the Red City, hundreds of ill advised actions.
