Leaked NSA Document Details Russian Hacking Efforts Days Before 2016 Election

The Intercept: Top-Secret NSA Report Details Russian Hacking Effort Days Before 2016 Election

RUSSIAN MILITARY INTELLIGENCE executed a cyberattack on at least one U.S. voting software supplier and sent spear-phishing emails to more than 100 local election officials just days before last November’s presidential election, according to a highly classified intelligence report obtained by The Intercept.

The top-secret National Security Agency document, which was provided anonymously to The Intercept and independently authenticated, analyzes intelligence very recently acquired by the agency about a months-long Russian intelligence cyber effort against elements of the U.S. election and voting infrastructure. The report, dated May 5, 2017, is the most detailed U.S. government account of Russian interference in the election that has yet come to light.

While the document provides a rare window into the NSA’s understanding of the mechanics of Russian hacking, it does not show the underlying “raw” intelligence on which the analysis is based. A U.S. intelligence officer who declined to be identified cautioned against drawing too big a conclusion from the document because a single analysis is not necessarily definitive.

WNU Editor: The main stream media is now running with this story .... but no mention from them of this (quoting the above Intercept post) ....

In short .... it is just one source, and it could be wrong.

Also (from CBS) .... One of the four authors who wrote The Intercept's story about the NSA report tweeted that nothing in the report indicated that "the actual voting machines or vote tabulations were compromised" in November's election.

Update: Breaking news .... the person who leaked this document to The Intercept has been found out and charged (my next post).

On the left, it's about the hacking,

On the right, just the leak and only the leak

As for the "source" material, that's what the summary was compiled from, and is generally not widely distributed, but the summary reports are.

Jay that's not true. .people with sense, no matter what direction they are leaning, ask for evidence. It's been more than half a year of this nonsense now. Democrats need to deliver evidence when they a. accuse Russia - a nuclear armed state - of interfering in their elections, and b. Continue with innuendo that the president and his team may have colluded with Russia - which might be treason. As you know, treason is almost guaranteed to result in long term prison sentences...so isn't it fair to show evidence about all this? Where is it? After half a year of basically halting any progress the Democrats need to own this and deliver. And you, Jay, need to wake the f up. . You can't just keep walking around accusing everyone of ignoring things that aren't there. The republicans, independents and all foreigners watching (including myself) just want to finally see evidence after all this innuendo and accusations. ..especially CNN whose commentators and hosts have been running their mouths 24/7 on this and making millions in advertisement money through all the libtards who can't turn it off and dont get that the burden of proof lies with the accusing party. Where is the proof, Jay? Do you think it's fair to accuse and do all this innuendo and basically public lynching without any evidence? ?? Are you a liberal or a moron?

LMFAO,

The Watergate Investigation lasted over 3 years before the "evidence" was made public,

And that didn't involve issues of National Security Sources and methods.

The Soviet Spy Walker investigation took 4 years, but you can't see most of the actual "evidence", it's still classified. Some of it, only the Judge saw, and that was over 20 years ago.

On top of it, it's cyber. The NSA openly admits in the report, they don't know if the voting machines and codes were hacked and compromised, or even if they remain hacked and compromised. All they are absolutely sure of is the GRU tried.

That's the fun and joy of a first day malware episode, the malware can sit there for years until you wake up one morning and all your money's been transferred to Nigeria. Once the malware acts, it can be identified, a patch can be created, and other users can keep their money, yours will still be in Nigeria.

In the US, most of the voting is electronic, and can't even be verified at the time of the vote. There is no paper trail. All the Vote.Orgs say exactly the same thing, cast your vote, watch the screen, and if it doesn't record your vote correctly, call a poll workers over, do not leave the machine, do not click through. 99% of the time, the poll worker will blame you, 1% of the time, they will either discover that the touch screen is improperly aligned, or???????????

They send it back to the Corporation, and haul another one out from the back and set it up.

Only the Corporation knows if the machine was rigged, or hacked, and it takes a long time to find malware if you don't know exactly what you are looking for. Both rigging, and hacking, are bad for business, NDA's are great for business.

In Canada, we use paper.

As the Con's recent election shows, even paper can be "hacked" if some of "the people" have no integrity.

Ok sure whatever...all I want is the evidence, Jay...you say in 3 years you'll present it? Okay. .but if not, what then? Will you own up to it, you couch assassin?

Alex Jones, is that you?

LMFAO,

There's 4 criminal, ( maybe more, now) criminal investigations going on.

They are investigations. No charges have been made yet, nobody's been arrested, there are no criminal trials, yet, whats not classified evidence that can be presented, will be presented when there are trials, along with confessions by those who cut deals, and testimony, 2, 3, maybe 4 years from now.

There are two "hearings" going on as well.

In those hearings, vague testimony about what happened and the direction the investigations are taking is being presented. Vague, because they are ongoing investigations involving National Security matters.

As Sen. Trey Gowdy was told by Brennnan, when he asked for details and evidence, Brennan said he wasn't going to talk about the details and evidence in public, because they are classified,

And if Sen. Gowdy really wanted to know the details, all he had to do, was go to the Senate Intelligence Committee Secure Reading Room, and read the classified files forwarded to the Committee, by the investigations.

Seeing as Sen. Gowdy is either to busy, or uninterested in seeing the evidence in a secure environment, maybe, as a Self Nominated Representative of Middle America, ( or a Russian troll, it's hard to tell these days), you could volunteer your services to him.

You can pass a NSC check, right?

While Briebart America would like all the evidence, including classified evidence publically released so that they can bellingcat the shit out of it and prove it was Seth Rich who hacked the elections on Hillary's orders, so the Illuminati can annex Guam,

Ain't gonna happen.

LMFAO,

Meanwhile, there's gonna be two more elections, with the same voting technology, and nobody's talking about election security.

Who's going to win the 2018 Midterms and the 2020 Presidential?

Russian Hackers? Chinese Hackers? Kim Dotcom? Anonamous? Google?

Or will it be Little Kim and his underdog but scrappy little band of NORKs?
