NSA Contractor Who Leaked NSA Document To The Intercept Has Been Arrested

NBC: Feds Arrest NSA Contractor in Leak of Top Secret Russia Document

Barely an hour after a news organization published an article about a Top Secret National Security Agency document on Russian hacking, the Justice Department announced charges against a 25-year-old government contractor who a senior federal official says was the leaker of the document.

The May 5, 2017 intelligence document published by The Intercept, an online news organization, describes new details about Russian efforts to hack voting systems in the U.S a week prior to the 2016 presidential election. While the document doesn’t say the hacking changed any votes, it "raises the possibility that Russian hacking may have breached at least some elements of the voting system, with disconcertingly uncertain results."

WNU Editor: Apparently she confessed to the authorities that she was the person who leaked the NSA document to The Intercept (see post here). She is 25 years old .... here is an easy prediction .... life is not going to be easy for her or for her family from now on.

'Reality Winner'. BAM goes another irony meter.

The days of secrets are about over, everything seems to be open, whether it's by leakers, or hackers, whatever.

"Today, The Intercept released documents on election tampering from an NSA leaker. Later, the arrest warrant request for an NSA contractor named “Reality Winner” was published, showing how they tracked her down because she had printed out the documents and sent them to The Intercept. The document posted by the Intercept isn’t the original PDF file, but a PDF containing the pictures of the printed version that was then later scanned in.

The problem is that most new printers print nearly invisibly yellow dots that track down exactly when and where documents, any document, is printed. Because the NSA logs all printing jobs on its printers, it can use this to match up precisely who printed the document."

Yup about the yellow dots .... and I have known about that for a long time. I am surprised that she did not .... nor did The Intercept. Once The Intercept gave a copy of this leaked docuemnt to the NSA for their reaction it gave the NSA the means to track down the printer.

I am sure there were others who used the same printer, but once they knew which printer was used .... I can see the warrant going out to check everyone's phone/internet records, checking out the video records of the office, etc.... they ended up with a few suspects .... and then they screened it down to her.

I am sure that she and her lawyers are going to push the excuse that she is a whistle-blower .... good luck on that .... her intent was obvious .... and I am willing to bet her life is going to be a living hell from now on.

On a side note .... a lot of people in the NSA apparently saw this document .... but did not treat it as a serious attempt by Russian intel to "hack the results of the election". To them it was just one of many phishing attempts to get information. From what I have seen in the Intercept report .... and what has not been redacted .... I am underwhelmed. But the main stream media are having an orgasm over this.

I am very glad over this arrest. Hopefully this is just one of many to follow.

At least one of the writers knew about the dot's, that's why he forwarded the origional, for confirmation, not a copy.

As many bloggers are pointing out, if you've got something to leak, leak it to WaPo or ProPublica or the Sunshine Project.

It was bad enough that Wikileaks, The Intercept and Assange "selectively" leak as part of managing an political agenda,

Now they are turning in their sources.

A government contractor who was charged Monday with leaking top secret U.S. intelligence to the media appears to be a climate change activist and vociferous anti-Trump leftist who is sympathetic to the terrorist regime in Iran, according to her social media profiles.

Reality Leigh Winner, 25, was arrested by the FBI this weekend in Georgia and appeared in court Monday to face charges. Winner admitted that in early May, according to the Department of Justice affidavit, she “printed and improperly removed
classified intelligence reporting” and sent that information to the media.
