Anon,

Don't know if the US is "communists" but I do know people and know of people who have experienced it directly and they have generally said things to the effect of "there are more communists in the United States and the 'west' than there are in Russia or the former Soviet Union." Russia appears to have fully rejected communism and appears to be on the road to recovery. As for the United States, not so much.
