What Did The North Korean Regime Do To Otto Warmbier

New York Times: Otto Warmbier Was ‘Brutalized and Terrorized’ in North Korea, Father Says

WYOMING, Ohio — For more than a year, while their son Otto was a prisoner in North Korea, Fred and Cindy Warmbier knew nothing about his fate.

Then, over the last week, the Warmbiers finally received some news: First, the family learned that Otto, a 22-year-old University of Virginia student, was gravely ill, and then that he would be coming home. But his return has been heart-wrenching for the family and this small community that has wrapped its arms around them.

On Thursday, doctors caring for Mr. Warmbier at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center delivered grim news: He had suffered “extensive loss of brain tissue in all regions of his brain” most likely caused by “cardiopulmonary arrest,” which cut off the blood supply to his brain.

Based on two M.R.I. scans sent by the North Koreans, the doctors concluded that Mr. Warmbier had sustained his catastrophic brain injury sometime before April 2016.

Update #1: Student freed by N. Korea is in a state of unresponsive wakefulness, doctors say (ABC News)
Update #2: Doctors: Ex-North Korea detainee Otto Warmbier has severe brain injury (CNN)

WNU Editor: The report is grim .... major portions of his brain are "dead" caused by blood deprivation .... probably caused by (quoting the doctors) having his heart stopped for too long thereby resulting in oxygen deprivation that produced severe brain damage. What made his heart stop .... that is an easy answer .... survivors of communist run gulags have chronicled what life is like in such hell-holes .... beatings/deprivation/exposed to inhuman conditions/medical experiments .... pick your choice .... but bottom line .... most people who find themselves in these places do not survive for any long period of time.

I'm glad I'm not the president of the united states, cause... As much as this guy was an idiot for what he did, he is still an American citizen who has suffered unjustly so at the hands of another State.

I'd be very angry. Very very angry. And I'd be glad that it wouldn't be my hand on the big red button...

They should have made NK disappear a long time ago when it was still doable. Not any more.
