White House Warns Russia That The U.S. Will Protect Its Interests In Syria

Washington Times: White House to Russia: U.S. will protect our interests in Syria

The White House responded to warnings from Russia Monday by saying the U.S. will do whatever’s necessary to protect America’s military and its interests in Syria, where a U.S. warplane shot down a Syrian military plane.

“Obviously, we’re going to do what we can to protect our interests,” said White House press secretary Sean Spicer. “We will always preserve the right of self-defense.”

Moscow, an ally of Syria, warned the U.S. that its military would shoot down anything in the skies over Syria after the incident.

WNU Editor: IMHO all sides are now testing each other .... Assad and Putin are testing the US in Syria. Trump is answering. (Tom Rogan, Washington Times). But Russia has drawn their red line and I do not think they are going to back down .... nor do I see the White House backing down either. My prediction .... both sides are going to try their best to avoid each other, but it is now all-out war in the city of  Raqqa and elsewhere in eastern Syria, and I have trouble seeing how all of these sides can avoid each other on a battlefield that is changing everyday.

Update: Dunford: Communication with Russia still open after Syria shootdown (Defense News).

Putin is usually more cautious. He is may be so accustom of the Obama "back down strategy" that he take a big risk. Wait and see.

A big giant Dog Fuck, 15 years and it's escalating by the day. The So Called Leaders/Morons had better sit down and talk an end to this while there is still time, nobody is going to like what come next if they don't. Tic Toc Tic Toc.

Define "our interests' given Syria is a sovereign nation that requested help from Russia, not the USA?

A US ABC news article claims US aircraft strafed the ground before Syrian forces to prevent them advancing on Raqqa, despite their willingness to engage ISIS, which forced them to withdraw thus allowing "SDF" forces to engage ISIS. Then the Syrian Su-22 dropped ordnance "near US allied forces"(which may or may not indicate they actually hit them), and was promptly shot down.

Is that an accurate sequence of events?

Despite inflammatory headlines announcing otherwise, the Russian MoD anounced their air defence systems will now target (which I take to mean using Track/Track While Scan/possible Continuous Wave functions of the air defence targeting systems, and not hot launches) any coalition aircraft west of the Euphrates if Russian aircraft are carrying out operations in the area.

Is that accurate?
