It is one of the most hotly anticipated blockbusters for years - boasting a swathe of star names and receiving a string of glowing five star reviews.
But while Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk seems destined for success in Britain, it has come under fire from French critics, who claim their compatriots' involvement in the evacuation has been downplayed.
And the Russians have also been critical, mocking it as a celebration of British cowardice - despite the fact they had a non-aggression pact with Hitler at the time.

I don't know what propaganda point they are promoting in this film, but I won't be watching it for a couple of years. I have read a lot about Dunkirk, the small boats were manned mostly by Royal Navy personnel, though some civvies did take their boats across, but of course the fake news of the CBC would not do there job and fact check. The Brits are masters of turning a a Major Defeat into a Victory, and by focusing on the evacuation of the troops of Dunkirk,which was pretty remarkable, the attention of the people is directed away from the fact the British and French fucked up and got their ass kicked in May,June 1940. As Churchill said"wars are not won by evacuation", WW2 was won by the American and British Machine Tool Manufactures, Shipyards, Factories, the Red Army which caused 80% of German Causalities and the Bombing of German and Japanese Civilians, its time we stopped feeding Bull Shit and Propaganda to the people and come clean on how to win a war instead of this Hollywood Bull and if we did, maybe just maybe we might have a more positive outcome in the middle east.

Saw the movie on Friday. Excellent. Can't speak for authenticity - I wasn't there either - but I think they got it as close as they could. A stand out were the spectacular POV shots of the aircraft sequences. What also struck me were the sound effects. In particular the dog fighting scenes. The shuddering of the Spitfire as they fought, the guttural roar of the Merlin engine and overall perfect editing. The movie actually has very little dialogue. Long scenes play out with virtually no one speaking, relying on expansive visual landscapes to do most of the story telling. From the perspective of those soldiers on that beach, it may as well have been the apocalypse. The film should receive Oscar noms for sound, sound editing, cinematography and director. And maybe score as well. Possibly best picture?
I'd happily see it again.
If you have watched the videos of the Vietnamese soldiers training to shoot at incoming US planes, a strategy that was quite successful it seems strange to see masses of soldiers on the beach falling flat in the face of incoming German planes rather than massing to shoot at them. I don't know if they did that on the real battlefield.
