Reuters: Chinese state media: US government shutdown exposes 'chronic flaws'

BEIJING (Reuters) - China's official news agency said in a commentary on Sunday that the shutdown of the U.S. government exposed "chronic flaws" in the U.S. political system.

Funding for federal agencies ran out at midnight on Friday in Washington after lawmakers failed to agree on a stopgap funding bill.

"What's so ironic is that it came on the first anniversary of Donald Trump's presidency on Saturday, a slap in the face for the leadership in Washington," China's Xinhua News Agency said in a commentary by Xinhua writer Liu Chang.

The commentary said that the Trump administration had "backtracked" on policies supported by his predecessor, Barack Obama, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement and U.S. participation in the Paris climate agreement.

WNU Editor: The Chinese are not the only ones who are mocking and/or are "scratching their heads" on why there is a U.S. government shutdown. Every news outlet in the world is following this story, and almost all of them are acknowledging that this shutdown is primarily over the immigration status of those who entered the country illegally. But this is where it gets interesting .... the comments that are being posted are coming from a lot of people who do not understand why the U.S. government should be shut down over people who are not even American citizens. As an immigrant myself (albeit I am in Canada) .... I also do not understand .... especially when I know that there are numerous avenues for people to get a proper and legal status to live, work, and obtain a U.S. citizenship if they try.

Xinhua writer Liu Chang's commentary is here .... Gov't shutdown exposes chronic flaw in U.S. political system (Liu Chang, Xinhua)

WNU,
I agree, I am an immigrant too and I'm American Citizen because I always be legal and going through the process.
That said, there was government shutdown under Obama, Bush, Clinton and Reagan...at least and I didn't remember any furious comment at these time. But the difference is: TRUMP. Permanent double standard.

The Democrats want new voters. They want a permanent underclass. If too many people crawl or climb out of the lower class, they do not need the Democrat party. So the Democrat Party has to replenish the ranks of the lower class.

As Rush Limbaugh has said and I paraphrase 'The Democrats need a permanent underclass.'

This is not much different than in the period preceding and during the Roman civil wars of the Republic.

Rich people patricians, who of the Senatorial class, are patrons to commoners (clients). The patrons fix tickets, find them work, help them out in various ways. In return the clients are expected to vote for the senator, be at their rallies and if need be, be their mob and thugs.

The modern Democrat party want the illegals legalized. Then they want to give them the right to vote, the franchise.

Rush said as much when he said (paraphrase) "Fine legalize them but don't let them vote for 25 years. Then we will see what the Democrat party is after. If they cared more about the plight of the illegals than their electoral chances, they would jump at the deal."

He also said if the Democrats made that deal after it was made the Democrats (He named Schumer by name) would renege on the deal.

I would rather have the illegals here if the are bilingual than in Latin America. In the last several months I am not so sure after looking at the incarceration rates, the MS 13 gang problems and everything else.

The simple fact is that you cannot get enough votes from the Republic a rank & file unless you give them something, a compromise, (a quid pro quo). That would be the wall for amnesty. The fact is the Democrats, the RINOs, Jeb Bush and others have all sh__ on the base, when it came to a real quid pro quo.

Jeb Bush verily deserves to have had the biggest monetary war chest for 2016 and still have lost because he shat on the base. He said he was going to win without the base. He got what he deserved.

It's no surprise that you would be scratching your head over the shut down.

The Republican's have the House, the Senate and the White House.

In theory, they could pass and get signed a "clean" funding bill, except that the Republican's are composed of a variety of factions, some of whom won't vote under any circumstances, for a "clean" funding bill.

They would vote for an "unclean" funding bill, if their pet projects were porked onto the bill, but their positions are so extremist, that for every vote Rand and McConnel gain by adding one of those provisions, they lose the votes of 2 to 41 "moderate" Republicans.

So in order to get enough votes in the House and Senate to get the funding bill to pass, Mitch and Paul need to woo, not Republican's, but Democrats.

So a "deal" was arranged to add SCHIP funding and DACA provisions to the Bills, that would garner more than enough Democratic Party votes in the House and Senate, to pass, and more than make up for the Republican fringe who would never vote for helping poor, sick kids, or protecting immigrants.

Mitch even got Trump to agree to sign it.

Then Faux and Friends dissed the deal, Nazi party member Steven Miller got to Trump's ear, and 4 months of negotiations went up in tweet smoke.

NAFTA, NATO, FICA, are all going to go up the same way.

Basically, anybody who's done business with Trump could tell you the same thing.

A "Trump Deal", a contract, only has worth when the check clears, and in full, and most of the time, the check bounces.

Jay,
60 Senate votes are needed for an appropriations bill to pass. Not one Democrat has signed onto this bill. Hence the shut-down. The Republicans did the same thing a few years ago. The Democrats could have passed all of this DACA business and the status Dreamers when the had super-majorities in the first two years of President Obama's term .... they choose not too.

As for the focus on the immigration status of people who are not U.S. citizens, while American citizens are suffering .... you just made my point. People outside the country are justifiably scratching their head, because the people who are suffering are the poor Americans that you are saying that you very concerned about.

As for calling people that you disagree with Nazis. C'mon Jay .... that is really getting really lame.

Dems caved. Had nothing to stand on except their rote Trump hate. Nothing changed over the weekend in the GOP stance. Democrats discovered late that their platform on this issue was actually a sinking (polls) pit so back they come with hat in hand.

And here we are, now Monday.

https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/195

The Dem's got a "Clean Funding" Bill, no extra funding for Trumpista pet projects like the Deportation Force, The Wall, Session's Pot SWAT or Pences "Life ends at 9 Months" forced birther bill.

The Dem's got a 6 year funding of CHIP, one of the "hostages" Trump took,

A promise from Turtle Mitch for a clean DACA bill and vote, ( worthless, but good optics for the Dems when Mitch is proved not only a liar, but impotent as well),

What did Trump get?

A two and a half week extension.

It all starts over Feb. 8th.

It's the way you deal with crooks, liars and cheats in business. A short term "clean contract", also known as a short leash, and every time they have to come back to the table, you add one more thing, locked in concrete.

BTW, people who espose the core tenets of Nazism, are Nazi's. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, swims and flies like a duck, it's a duck, no matter how much it quacks, or tweets, that it's just concerned about White Genocide or "Western Culture".

ARC Canada has demonstrated it time, and time again.

They can't go 2 minutes "in private" on their social media feeds with out going full Nazi.

Jay,
I live across the St. Lawrence river where natives who marry non-natives are told to leave the reservation all in the name of preserving Native culture. Are they Nazis?

French Quebecers have a long history of being hostile and discriminatory to non-francophones and non-white immigrants.... and they justify it in the name of preserving their culture. Are they Nazis?

I can spend the entire night discussing the core tenets of Nazism/Communism/Mao's interpretations of Marx/etc.... and how the men who adopted these ideologies to govern were also men who had deep prejudices against other ethnic groups. But that was then .... today .... these political ideologies are now dead. But the ethnic and racial hatreds still exist, on many sides, and that has nothing to do with political ideology .... it has everything to do with culture and how politicians and political parties use it to advance their agenda.
