Reuters: Germany presses U.S. on potential Eurofighter nuclear role

BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany is pressing Washington to clarify whether it would let the Eurofighter Typhoon carry nuclear bombs as part of shared Western defenses, an issue that could help decide whether Berlin orders more of the jets, sources familiar with the matter said.

Although not a nuclear power, Germany hosts some U.S. nuclear warheads under NATO’s nuclear-sharing policy and operates a number of Tornado warplanes that can deliver them. New jets will need to be certified by Washington to carry out nuclear missions, a process which can take years.

Germany’s defense ministry sent a letter to the U.S. Defense Department in April asking whether certification of the European jets was possible, how much it would cost, and how long it would take, the sources told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

Germany has not attacked anyone for like 70+ years and bent over backwards to atone for its history. What other country recently invaded another country and has never admitted its own wrong doings during which even more people died? That's right. Russia. Invaded Ukraine 2 years ago, invaded georgia like 8 years ago. And under Stalin 20million died, right? Common wnu..Russians should get over it by now

Also. .as you know..Germans already have the bomb (part of the nuke sharing program) AND has airway flown with them...just with older planes like the Tornado.this is not about getting nukes but about which plane to use. The typhoon isn't stealth. ..and extra jamming equipment is a bit difficult to always forward deploy. .especially in nuke scenarios where minutes may matter

We wouldn't allow it in the first place.

Rumor has it the Americans are asking the Germans which 4 of their flyable Eurofighters they want to modify?

I think this was meant as a message to Italy.

ANON at least Russia tends to stay in its own back yard unlike say the USA. You forget who created Iraq II that killed a hell of a lot of people and spawned ISIS and has yet to admit its wrongdoings there and elsewhere.
