France 24: Lack of food pushes 2.3mn to flee Venezuela: UN

About 2.3 million Venezuelans have fled their crisis-hit country mainly because of a lack of food as severe shortages of medicine has left thousands at risk, the UN spokesman said Tuesday.

The Venezuelans have fled to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil.

"People cite the lack of food as their main reason for leaving," said UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric. About 1.3 million Venezuelans are suffering from malnourishment.

Severe shortages of medicine and medical supplies have led to a "sharp deterioration of the quality of hospitals," he said, citing UN humanitarian officials.

More than 100,000 Venezuelans living with HIV/AIDS are "at risk due to lack of access to necessary medication," he said.

What’s left of our health care system is next. Lived a healthy life and hadn’t required to see any specialists until recently. Yeah took three months to get in just for an assessment and another month to get treated. So many imigrants with health issues but not financially contributing to the betterment of the system. So much for free health care. You’ll die waiting for it.

I am not sure what you really mean. Are you referring to V.A. Hospitals? Medicare? private insurance?
Are you blaming immigrants for your plight? Do you believe immigrants do not contribute to the system? How far back does an immigrant have to be to be non contributing?
Our health system has been in very bad shape for a very long time, and the current president promised while campaigning to fix it.
