Defense News: Price tag of the ‘war on terror’ will top $6 trillion soon

WASHINGTON — The price tag of the ongoing “war on terror” in the Middle East will likely top $6 trillion next year, and will reach $7 trillion if the conflicts continue into the early 2020s, according to a new report out Wednesday.

The annual Costs of War project report, from the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University, puts the full taxpayer burden of fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria over the last 17 years at several times higher than official Defense Department estimates, because it includes increases in Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs spending, as well as new military equipment and personnel.

“Because the nation has tended to focus its attention only on direct military spending, we have often discounted the larger budgetary costs of the post-9/11 wars, and therefore underestimated their greater budgetary and economic significance,” the new report states.

Cost is such a simple term. Think of it as an investment with multiple purposes and pay-offs.

Such a waste of money that could have given the US the best healthcare system in the world ++++. Basically much if not most the work effort of Americans over the past quarter century and probably the next quarter century has produced nothing for the nation, nothing material and certainly not even a tiny measure of credibility.

HERE IS HOW TO PAY FOR IT

Osama knocks down the World Trade Center and murders 3,000 people.

Bob says "Suck it up, no war, because it would be a waste"

Osama knocks down another building and murder another 3,000 people.

Bob says "Suck it up, no war, because it would be a waste"

rinse repeat.

In sanity is doing the same thing again and expecting different results.

Bob is insane.

The cost of not attacking people that attack your country or caravan is higher than 6 trillion.

Fred,

You are a Bernie supporter, which is funny.

Bernie never had a job outside of government.

Bernie knows jack.

Bernie is so bad, he makes you look like a genius.

Imagine how infinitesimal the cost might have been if the US had stayed home and minded its own business, in the first place. The cost of retaliation for 9/11 has exceeded the cost of causing 9/11 by perhaps a factor of millions.

The real question may well be, how much was the cost of facilitating the attackers on 9/11? Surely you don't believe that the most militarized country in the history of the world was simply unable to defend itself on that day? That the intelligence and military communities failed to do their job on 9/11 should have resulted in mass firings of people, but it didn't did it?

If you think America is any safer today as a result of all the money wasted then you are a bigger idiot than I thought you were. If you haven't been keeping up with the news you have missed the fact that the US is quickly deteriorating from within.

Imagine being lectured by Bob of the financial services industry, who is on the dole in retirement.

Now that is rich.

"Imagine all the money the US would have saved if they had stayed put after Pearl Harbor."

Failures in the government? Yeah that would be Gorelick her wall. The Democrats promoted her and gave her a nice cushy job at Fanny Mae or Freddie Mac.

I've been to Vancouver and Toronto. I know what kind of place Canada is. It is one with a military that is more like a wannabe coast guard and border police and still has urban decay.
