U.S. Democrat Representative: President Trump Pulling The U.S. Out Of NATO Is Grounds For Impeachment

The Hill: Dem rep: Trump pulling US from NATO would be grounds for impeachment

A Democratic member of the House warned Tuesday that any move by President Trump to exit NATO would be grounds for removal from office.

Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) told CNN's "New Day" that Congress or the president's advisers would be forced to take "profound" action to prevent Trump from exiting the decades-old military alliance, formed following World War II.

"It had better be an idle threat from the president, because I think that act would be so destructive to our country and to our ability to protect the national security of every American that it would be a ground for some profound effort by our part, whether it is impeachment or the 25th Amendment," Speier, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, told CNN.

WNU Editor: President Trump believes that since NATO members are not fulfilling their promised obligations to NATO, a new arrangement must be found, even maybe exiting NATO. Is this debate off-limits now because it is grounds for impeachment? Currently most Democrats support staying in NATO, less so for Republicans .... NATO is seen favorably in many member countries, but almost half of Americans say it does too little (PEW Research).

1. we should not and do not run our foreign policy by domestic polls
2. impeachment is a no starter since it would take the Senate to do anything and they are Trump's slaves

NATO is being sidelined by France and Germany right now with their PESCO program and the recent German and French declaration to form a real EU army independent of NATO.

I don't care what Rep Speier has to say, the die has been cast. Germany and France can't afford their existing NATO commitments so obviously they will need to cut their NATO contributions to get the new EU army up and running.

In fact for the US, what defense alignment is needed in Europe? The only one is maritime so that the Northern Atlantic and Med can be denied to Russia and the US needs to be able to control the South Atlantic on its own. Those nations are Norway, Iceland, Britain, Italy, Greece and that's about it.

A tip: do not post an article that is one person making what may or may not be anything but total nonsense. There are many dopes from both parties that are elected to Congress and many if not most should be ignored when they make statements that are simply personal opinions

Here's the reality. NATO lost its raison d'etre when the Warsaw pact dissolved at the end of the Cold War. Instead of seeing the opportunity to create a new world based on developing human civilization that existed at that moment, NATO expanded eastwards to bring itself right up to Russia's borders and ever closer to Moscow, thus planting the seeds of the crisis facing us now. It's a corpse that must be buried if we are to avoid World War III.

the Mueller report will become available, some believe, in Feb...meanwhile, similar investigations will be taken up by Dems in Congress, much as GOP dug into Hillary, kept stuff from Dems, and got nowhere...the chief piece, for me: revealing taxes for Trump. If that self loving braggart is both super wealthy and has no ties to Russian mob, ie Putin associates, then taxes should reveal a good deal, one way or the other. Rather odd that an innocent man should refuse to reveal those taxes and use the excuse that is invalid that he is under audit.
