U.S. Defense Chief: Iranian Threats 'Put On Hold'

RFE: Pentagon Chief Says Iranian Threats 'Put On Hold'

The United States' response to alleged Iranian threats has “put on hold” potential attacks by Iran, acting U.S. Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan has said.

"I think our steps were very prudent and we've put on hold the potential for attacks on Americans and that is what is extremely important,” Shanahan told reporters at the Pentagon on May 21.

He added that "the threat remains high and our job is to make sure that there is no miscalculation by the Iranians."

Later in the day, Shanahan, along with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Joseph Dunford, are set to brief U.S. lawmakers on Iran.

Yes, there needs to be a better rationale for the rhetoric and build up. Aside from a threat to kidnap and kill US servicemen, there's been no other explanation. Missiles affixed aboard cargo ships could be a threat. Iran has outlined these systems in the past. Threats to shut Hormuz, sabotage on Saudi oil tankers...

Note no harassment of US warships in the Persian Gulf. (yet reported).

Don't despair Russ. According to the buffoons who brought us the disasters of the last 16 years, regime change will magically happen any minute now.

If you believe it you can achieve it!

I agree. Let this not be another Iraq.

The Iran story - while largely true in terms of that they sponsor terrorism and have killed hundreds/have helped to kill hundreds of US service men and women, largely through their IEDs that were used in Iraq, it would be good to remember the lessons of the Iraq war:

1) wrong war
2) false evidence
3) wrong strategy
4) lack of proper goal definition (what means victory and what can we realistically and should we expect or service men and women to do).
5).. your pick

I don't support sending anyone for anything unless they truly attacked us.

We should never attack first and only when absolutely necessary and morally righteous.

Getting some of these basics wrong is what Russia and other nations (China, North Korea) exploited to paint the US Army as world wide aggressors.

Well played by the administration, and they do not need to share the intel!
