Russian YouTuber Uses Social Media To Expose Stalin's Crimes

DW: Russian YouTuber explores the horrors of Stalin's gulags

A strong majority of Russians approve of Stalin's rule, and young adults have never heard of his Great Terror campaign. Now, YouTube star Yury Dud's film about the legacy of Stalinist repressions is shaking the country.

"I don't know about you, but all my life, I've been hearing my parents say: 'Be careful, don't attract unnecessary attention, it's dangerous. And, besides, we're simple people — we don't decide anything.' My parents are wonderful people," says Yury Dud in his film Kolyma: The Home of Our Fear. WNU Editor: Russians are not ignorant on who and what Stalin was. To put it bluntly, only the nuts go on TV to defend him. Meanwhile, for nearly 80 years - we are told it's the Germans who are the real villains in it all. Never the Russians. The Russians, so the story goes, freed us all. Didn't kill Polish, didn't plot with Hitler to do it.. didn't kill more people than Hitler did.. nooooo.. it was all ze Germans. never the Russians..glorious mother Russia, lets all get drunk during the next "victory parade" and lie to each other once more, year after year. Proud, dumb Russians we are

It seems the old folks everywhere, the ones of the olden days, were afraid of everything, political tyrants for sure, but also the tyrants of the Church and of course the god(s). The god of misinformation, of course, is surviving and doing very well even, especially today with all the social media inroads into people hearts and minds.

And not to forget.... Mr. Putin is just a hint better, if you consider a benevolent dictator one who kills only hundreds and not hundreds of thousands. The Russians need to throw out their tyrants for good. It is a national psychosis which must be overcome. And the Americans need to close the door on their wannabe strongman.
