Reuters: Kremlin says it is winning arms race against U.S. despite rocket accident

MOSCOW (Reuters) - The Kremlin boasted on Tuesday it was winning the race to develop new cutting edge nuclear weapons despite a mysterious rocket accident last week in northern Russia that caused a temporary spike in radiation levels.

Rosatom, Russia’s state nuclear agency, has said that the Aug. 8 accident occurred during a rocket test on a sea platform in the White Sea, killing at least five and injuring three more.

It has pledged to keep developing new weapons regardless, portraying the men who died in the test as heroes.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Twitter on Monday the United States was “learning much” from the explosion which he suggested happened during the testing of a nuclear-powered cruise missile vaunted by President Vladimir Putin last year.

Earth to Putin: The US is not currently in an "arms race".

Why are there 3 world powers racing to weaponize space and develop hypersonic missiles then? There definitely is an arms race and the US is probably leading the way (with the exception of hypersonics) The US just doesn't have to brag about it as a hopeful form of deterrence like Russia does. Everyone already knows that the US isn't easily messed with and when you're already in that position then going around screaming about every weapon advancement we make is counterproductive in the extreme.

I like T. Roosevelt's comment; "Speak softly and carry a big stick".
The Russian mercenary attack in Syria awhile back was surprisingly inept, I felt. Little or no professionalism there.
