Expect Oil Prices To Skyrocket If A Middle East War Starts

USAF aircraft fly over burning Kuwaiti oil wells (1991)

The Economic Collapse Blog: If You Think The Price Of Oil Is Skyrocketing Now, Just Wait Until The War Starts…

In the aftermath of the most dramatic attack on Saudi oil facilities that we have ever seen, the price of oil has exploded higher. The Wall Street Journal is calling this attack “the Big One”, and President Trump appears to be indicating that some sort of military retaliation is coming. Needless to say, a direct military strike on Iran could spark a major war in the Middle East, and that would be absolutely devastating for the entire global economy. Just about everything that we buy has to be moved, and moving stuff takes energy. When the price of oil gets really high, that tends to create inflation because the price of oil is a factor in virtually everything that we buy. In addition, a really high price for oil also tends to slow down economic activity, and this is something that we witnessed just prior to the financial crisis of 2008. And if this crisis in the Middle East stretches over an extended period of time, it could ultimately result in a phenomenon known as “stagflation” where we have rapidly rising prices and weaker economic activity simultaneously. The last time we experienced such a thing was in the 1970s, and nobody really remembers the U.S. economy of the 1970s favorably.

WNU Editor: Almost 20% of the world's oil supply flows out of the Persian Gulf. A war would shut this traffic down, and needless to say the global economic impact will be massive.

Again trump back pedals on his threats of military reprisals... China must really be asking why the hell don't we take Taiwan, they back down against a 2nd rate tinpot power like Iran, they won't dare intervene against us.

When do you join up and fight?

Wow sounds like you'd have been great in 1939

Fazman,

It looks like the Trump sanctions have hit the Iranians quite a bit harder than the Obama ones. Look at the graph at a TIME SCALE OF 10 YEARS OR MAX.

https://tradingeconomics.com/iran/crude-oil-production

I suspect of Obama of giving Khamenei a reach around.

I would think that the sanctions would need 4 or 5 years at the Trump level judging from the Obama sanctions which were only a 3rd as sever judging form the graph. Although the Trump sanctions are show deeper cuts in Iranian oil production now, so maybe we are seeing the Iranians lash out, because they are working and will do them in soon unless they get a war, divert public attention or the prices rise enough.

The Iranian maybe cracking under the pressure.

I was chagrined that Trump wanted to talk to the, afraid that the sanctions might be lifted. They will work. You have to let the 'hydraulic' pressure work and that takes time

I would prefer sanctions over open warring with them. There is nothing chickenshit about it. I mean I could get another campaign medal and it would individually be profitable, but it would not comport with the principles espoused by Sun Tzu.

War or no war some how soldiers still get promoted, earn more money with age and know all the best restaurants.

Having former citizens of enemy nations in the household, I am not too keen on war. I would rather go with Sun Tzu, peel the onion, and win without fighting. But it is all good.

Not sure if Sun Tzu ever said it, but it is never good to back a rat into a corner where it's only out is via your throat.

Patience, Fazman. Patience. I would say we are winning a fairly bloodless conflict with the moo-lahs.
Consider the length of the Cold War and the end result.

- Inbred idiot

"Not sure if Sun Tzu ever said it"

是故百戰百勝,非善之善者也;不戰而屈人之兵,善之善者也

- For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.

- Hence to fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting.

- The best victory is when the opponent surrenders of its own accord before there are any actual hostilities... It is best to win without fighting.

It was very easy to look up. Maybe you are to inbred to figure out how to look it up?

Maybe you did not want to look it up?

"but it is never good to back a rat into a corner where it's only out is via your throat."

Nice strawman.

1939?

Is Anon 7:51 American or Non-American?

Did Fazman specify the European start, the American official start or the American unofficial start of WW2?
