RFE: Iranian Soccer Star Condemns Female Ban At Men's Games After Woman Sets Herself Alight

The captain of Iran's national soccer team has renewed his criticism of a ban on female spectators following reports a young Iranian woman set herself alight after being sentenced to prison for trying to attend a men's soccer match.

Masoud Soleimani Shojaei -- who is considered a national hero -- said on September 6 that the ban was the result of "rotten and disgusting thinking."

Women are banned from attending male sporting events in Iran. In past years, only selected groups of women have been allowed into stadiums to watch soccer matches or other men's sporting events.

Devoted female soccer fans have managed to defy the ban on rare occasions by disguising themselves as men.

Wow. What a woman. Sure, we could just call her clinically insane. But the very system she grew up in punishes her for just attending a sports game. Ffs THAT is insane. Imagine being a woman over there. Or a gay fellow. Or just someone who isn't that much into Allah. Death penalties and prison all around. I hope her name lives on for years and causes change so no other woman, or gay dude, or someone into no or a different religion, gets treated this way.

God would not want this. Any book or person claiming otherwise defends a mean spirit or mean religion and must not be followed. If Iranian leadership keeps on supporting crazy fundamentalists who imprison and kill and hurt others so much that they set themselves on fire. ..then they won't last. People have had enough of this sh$t.

Trump. Minutes ago in North Carolina. "Under the normal rules, I'll be out by 2024, so we may have to go for an extra term." This man is not your typical U.S. politician. He is a fascist. He must be removed from office now. https://t.co/AWRTqrRfcU
Very Stable Genius, Very Stable Government: John Bolton fired by tweet. // I'll bet this has to do with Trump's terrible plan to host the Taliban at Camp David close to the anniversary of 9/11. // With that said: Good riddance, John Bolton.
Trump: "I know nothing about an Air Force plane landing at an airport (which I do not own and have nothing to do with)." // Trump has a deal with Glasgow Prestwick Airport to direct planes to them, and for them to direct aircrews to his Turnberry resort. // So. Much. Lying. So. Much. Cheating.

@536

Agreed. I'm more likely to listen to someone - and very intently so - who sets himself or herself on fire (or whatever form you choose), as long as that person doesn't kill or physically hurt anyone else in the process.

That's why no one gives a f$ck about jihadists who kill others because they think we'll listen if they kill all of us. Of course we won't listen to your barbarism. Our truths are eternal, seek no defence and go way beyond what you have to offer. In short: Be silent bearded one! We only listen to truths and not your barberism you hide behind long beards acting as if you'd have depth in your fight. You don't.

But that lady - and that's what she is - a queen of conviction - set herself on fucking fire to make a point. And I'll listen to that any time.

"The Handmaid's Tale, a dystopian drama in which Christian fundamentalists launch a revolution and take over the government, is receiving a lot of attention at the moment ...

The book, written by Margaret Atwood, was published in 1985 in part as a reaction to Ronald Reagan's election

Pundits say the tale is newly relevant in the Trump era.

Atwood has said the series' cast woke up the morning after the election and thought, "We're no longer making fiction — we're making a documentary." Samira Wiley, who plays one of the show's main characters, said that after the election...

American liberals are in the habit of thinking the worst of Christians in the United States and the best of Muslims all over the world"

Liberals are that fucking stupid.

So we have very real poor treatment of women, which Democrats studiously ignore.

Democrats are cowards.

Fictional literature can become high level functional specification document for the future, with the added feature of pre-programming the reading and viewing public for acceptance.

It is interesting that a senior intelligence officer on leaving the theater also remarked on having seen the Peter Sellers movie, Dr. Strangelove, when it first came out said "I have just seen a documentary".

The movie 1984 released in 1956 based on the book 1984 by George Orwell also serves as a functional spec document for the future and in fact present. You may have noted, that listening devices are already in a very many homes and offices.
