9 News: 9/11 anniversary: Why al-Qaeda remains a threat 18 years after Twin Towers attack

Al-Qaeda's leaders are dead or ailing and Islamic State has stolen the mantle as the world's most feared terrorist organisation.

Al-Qaeda group was virtually unknown outside counter-terrorism circles before hijackers ploughed four passenger jets into the World Trade Centre in New York, the Pentagon in Washington DC and a Virginia field on September, 11, 2001, bringing down two of the world's most recognisable skyscrapers and killing nearly 3,000 people.

WNU Editor: The ideology still lives. And there are still millions of Muslims who support it. So yes. Al Qaeda and its affiliates are still a threat, and will be for a very long time.

Per a recent UN report has 30,000 troops and $300 million outside of millions maybe tens of millions of Muslims, who support them tacitly and occasionally.

As a true blue liberal, I fail to see the problem.

In 1996 Al Qaeda had declared war on the US and had trained 20,000 soldiers. It was not a problem.

It was so unserious that Bill Clinton may have jawboned a little bit and he threw a few cruise missiles, but it was more of a wag the dog exercise than a serious attempt to deal with Al Qaeda

Hollywood elites thought Clinton's dog wagging was so funny they made a movie about it. It was in your face.

Al Qaeda was not a problem in the 1990s. Wise statesman and paragon of virtue Bill Clinton certainly never mentioned it on a state of the union address. So 30,000 ISIS waifs is not a threat now.

All those millions of Muslim supporters of ISIS? Right proper liberal judges have told us what to think and what to do. COME ON DOWN!"

"Taliban nearly defeated till the GOP ignored Afghanistan "

Fredo believes that the Taliban is not the creation of the Pakistani ISI. Pakistan gives safe haven, intel, and supplies to the Taliban.

Under those circumstances the Taliban are not going to be defeated.

But blame bush and the GOP ya tard.
