Myanmar Leader Aung San Suu Kyi Says Accusations Of Genocide Against The Rohingya Muslim Minority Are 'Misleading



ABC News Online: Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi says genocide case brought against Myanmar 'misleading'

Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi has said the case brought against her country at the World Court was "incomplete and misleading" as she began her defence to accusations of genocide against the Rohingya Muslim minority.

The Republic of The Gambia, a small West African country, launched the case against Myanmar at the International Court of Justice, the UN's highest court, alleging it has violated the 1948 Genocide Convention.

Leading Myanmar's defence herself at the court in The Hague, Ms Suu Kyi acknowledged disproportionate force may have been used at times by the military, but said the conflict in the western Rakhine state was "complex and not easy to fathom".

You have to take the accusations of a "massacre" with a grain salt, she is probably right in that it was exaggerated for political purposes. Take two sides and go to the middle and that is where the truth probably lies.
