Chaos At U.S. Hospitals Due to Shortages In Coronavirus Testing Kits

Los Angeles Times: Chaos at hospitals due to shortage of coronavirus tests

LOS ANGELES — As COVID-19 cases spike, the test kits needed to help stem the spread of the disease remain in short supply, with health care workers across California reporting widespread failings in the federal government’s response to the growing crisis.

Federal officials said nearly 1 million tests were expected to be available by the end of this week. But in California, one of the country’s hardest-hit regions with 60 cases, the total testing capacity is limited to only 7,400 through the weekend, according to the California Department of Public Health.

The inability to test widely and swiftly for the novel coronavirus has impeded the country’s ability to beat back the spread of the virus, experts say. Without testing, public health officials don’t know where the virus is spreading and where to target efforts to contain it. Twelve Americans have been killed so far by the disease.

Trying to make up for lost time, the CDC will distribute 1.1 million COVID-19 tests by this weekend (Tech Crunch). I asked my brother on why is there a problem. His is a Doctor in Chemistry but he works in the bio-tech field in San Francisco. His specialty is making sure that drug products are manufactured properly and within guidelines. According to him the initial kits were not up to spec. To correct this takes time, They have to review how they are making these kits, and then correct it. But according to him they should solve this quickly.

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump tried to calm nerves amid the global outbreak of coronavirus while touring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta on Friday, but the visit took a political turn after he slammed Washington state's Democratic governor who is grappling with the rapidly growing epidemic.

Trump said he warned Vice President Mike Pence not to trust Gov. Jay Inslee during his Thursday visit to Washington state, which has been among the hardest hit areas across the U.S. with 10 deaths reported so far. Inslee previously ran for the Democratic presidential nominee and has in the past been critical of the president.

"I told Mike not to be complimentary of that governor because that governor is a snake," he told reporters while donning a "Keep America Great" hat at the CDC in Atlanta. "We have a lot of problems with the governor."

In a series of tweets Friday evening, Inslee said: "My single focus is and will continue to be the health and well-being of Washingtonians," adding that "the vice president's visit and our teams are working well together."

Trump is right not to trust Inslee. Washington state is California north.

It is a state where the Democrat nominee won election by 'found' ballots.

It is a place, where they go about erasing Asian-American identity.

It is a place where the largest city of the state was 10% African American, but where the liberal activists are so histrionic that you think that Seattle was the capital of 1930's Dixie.

Washington State is where, I saw razor wire in America in an urban setting and on a main street at that.

Democrats are busy making Washington state into Deep Blue California shithole north.

Washington state is so well run by Democrats (since 1985) that Army soldiers literally have gun battles in major cities.

Maybe Bob you should travel more, read the news more, and quite being so provincial.

Seven to nine people who have died in Washington state were all elderly from 1 nursing home.

They held a Infection Party and apparently it worked.

This one nursing so far accounts for about 1/2 of all deaths in America.

People with low IQs are scared. They should be. They spend their time doing wasteful things like cutting and pasting pox, when they should be improving their mind. But hey, a million times zero is still zero.

Instead ogling pix maybe they should learn things like hygiene or health?

Here are seven of the most ridiculous and disturbing moments:

1. Trump arrived wearing a campaign hat to the CDC.

While the president is, of course, allowed to wear whatever clothing he wants, it was in particularly bad taste to flout his campaign slogan “Keep America Great” hat as he manages a major public health threat. It shows, as his actions do on a daily basis, that he’s unable to differentiate his role as president from his political interests in a campaign.

2. Trump lied and said anyone who wants to get tested for the virus can be tested.

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar was trying to explain the status of the federal government’s testing operations, which have lagged far behind what medical professionals have needed. But Trump cut him off with an outright lie.

“Importantly: Anybody, right now, and yesterday, anybody that needs a test gets a test. They’re there. They have the tests. And the tests are beautiful,” Trump said.

This. Is. Not. True.

3. Trump compared the tests to the conduct that got him impeached.

“The tests are all perfect. Like the letter was perfect. The transcription was perfect, right? This was not as perfect as that but pretty good,” he said, referring to his infamous July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. (The call was not, it should be said, perfect.)

4. Trump cited Fox News for data on the virus, rather than the administration he leads.

While standing in a CDC building, Trump seemed to think his favorite network was the best source of information.

“As of the time I left the plane with you,” he told reporters, “we had 240 cases. Well, that’s at least what was on a very fine network known as Fox News. You love it. But that’s what I happened to be watching.”

Answering question about coronavirus response, Trump detours into discussing Fox News town hall ratings. pic.twitter.com/Ly6Q3Jcj6x

— Dan Diamond (@ddiamond) March 6, 2020

5. Trump went off on a tangent about the ratings for his Fox News town hall.

“How was the show last night?” Trump said of his town hall to a reporter. “Did it get good ratings, by the way?”

“I don’t know,” a reporter replied.

“Oh really? I heard it broke all ratings,” he said. “But maybe that’s wrong. That’s what they told me, I don’t know. I can’t imagine that.”

6. Robert Redfield, the director of the CDC, said the “most important thing” he wanted to say was praise of Trump.

“First I want to thank you, for your decisive leadership and helping us put public health first. I also want to thank you for coming here today and sort of encouraging and bringing energy to the men and women that you see that work every day to try to keep America safe,” he said.

It was a shameful display of sycophancy and ego-stroking. The country would have been much better served to see that one of the government’s top public health officials doesn’t feel the need to debase himself in front of the president.

At CDC, Trump is flanked by AZAR and REDFIELD — two officials facing most scrutiny over coronavirus response.

TRUMP: Doctor, do you want to make a little statement?

REDFIELD: First I want to thank you, for your decisive leadership…that's the most important thing I want to say. pic.twitter.com/DH6oWiqAfN

7. Trump lashed out at Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, who is dealing with a major outbreak in the state.

Melania Trump is catching heat again for something that may or may not be warranted -- putting up photos of a new project she's working on ... without addressing the coronavirus.

The First Lady tweeted 3 pics Saturday showing her, her team and a group of construction crew members wearing hard hats and checking blueprint plans for a new tennis pavilion she's having installed at the White House -- which is being funded by private donors.

I am excited to share the progress of the Tennis Pavillion at @WhiteHouse. Thank you to the talented team for their hard work and dedication. pic.twitter.com/Wzown2ho26

Innocent enough, right? WRONG!!!!!!! Or so says a bunch of Twitter users who immediately flooded her timeline with accusations of being tone-deaf, out of touch and super-snobbish to put a spotlight on a somewhat frivolous effort while a global pandemic is unfolding.

The People vs. Barack Obama: The Criminal Case Against the Obama Administration

Now in paperback, New York Times bestselling author Ben Shapiro presents a comprehensive case against Barack Obama’s abuses of power during his time in office.

From the DOJ to the NSA, from the EPA to the Department of Health and Human Services, Barack Obama’s administration has become a labyrinth of corruption and overreach touching every aspect of Americans’ lives. The People vs. Barack Obama strips away the soft media picture of the Obama administration to reveal a regime motivated by pure, unbridled power and details how each scandal has led to dozens of instances of as-yet-unprosecuted counts of espionage, involuntary manslaughter, violation of internal revenue laws, bribery, and obstruction of justice.

The story of the Obama administration is a story of abuse, corruption, and venality on the broadest scale ever to spring from the office of the presidency. President Obama may be the culmination of a century of government growth—but more important, he is the apotheosis of the imperial presidency. Obama chooses when to enforce immigration laws, delays his own Obamacare proposals when it is politically convenient to do so, micromanages the economy, attacks the Supreme Court, Congress, and the sovereign states. And he proclaims that he alone is the voice of the people while encroaching on their rights. In The People vs. Barack Obama, Ben Shapiro brings Obama into the people’s court and addresses each of his abuses of power.

Gay man who said he had sex with Obama running for mayor in Florida

Larry Sinclair gave a speech at the National Press Club in 2008, while Obama was running for President, alleging that the then-Senator bought and smoked cocaine and had sex with him in 1999.

Presidential campaign 2008. Lies, sex, drugs, murder...all the makings of a good suspense novel, but it is actually the story of Barack Obama. The mainstream media decided to anoint Barack Obama as the next president of the U.S., and in doing so, they chose to ignore their role to vet the candidates, for good and bad. Barack Obama acknowledged his drug usage, but when Larry Sinclair, who had used drugs with Obama, tried to tell his story, no one listened. 'Barack Obama and Larry Sinclair: Cocaine, Sex, Lies, and Murder' gives the background of how the Obama machine used the media, the internet, and the Office of the Delaware AG to keep Obama's past hidden.

As a reporter, in general I’m not supposed to say something like this, but: The president’s statements to the press were terrifying. That press availability was a repudiation of good science and good crisis management from inside one of the world’s most respected scientific institutions. It was full of Dear Leader-ish compliments, non-sequitorial defenses of unrelated matters, attacks on an American governor, and—most importantly—misinformation about the virus and the US response. That’s particularly painful coming from inside the CDC, a longtime powerhouse in global public health now reduced to being a backdrop for grubby politics. During a public health crisis, clear and true information from leaders is the only way to avoid dangerous panic. Yet here we are.

6 Reasons Why Obama Is the Worst President in History

By now you’ve probably heard of polls that say Americans believe that “Donald Trump is the worst president in history” or that presidential scholars have ranked Trump “dead last.” I can tell you right now to ignore the polls and the so-called experts. While it may be too early to properly gauge presidential rankings for recent presidents, I am confident that history will ultimately judge Barack Obama as the worst president our nation has ever seen.

The mountain of evidence that condemns his presidency to the bottom of the barrel is overwhelming. In my just re-released book, The Worst President in History: The Legacy of Barack Obama, I document 200 reasons why history will prove my belief correct in the years to come. Below, I present six abbreviated reasons, which, I can’t stress enough, are just the tip of the iceberg.

6. Weaponizing the government against his enemies

Perhaps the most well-known example of the Obama administration abusing its power to target Obama’s political enemies is the infamous IRS scandal. Over a two-year period leading up to the 2012 election, tea party groups and other conservatives were improperly scrutinized by the IRS. Twelve different IRS offices across the country were involved and the entire operation was orchestrated out of Washington, D.C., and there was also evidence of White House involvement. The IRS also targeted private individuals critical of Obama, GOP candidates, and Romney donors.

There are also examples of conservative individuals being targeted as the result of gross abuse of power by the Obama administration. Conservative author Dinesh D’Souza was indicted for campaign finance violations for a crime typically not prosecuted at all. James O’Keefe of Project Veritas was put on a terrorism watchlist after a video was released of him dressed as a terrorist crossing back and forth over the U.S./Mexico border to demonstrate the lack of border security.

Top Five Obama Administration Officials Who Used Secret Email Accounts

Obama’s pièce de résistance when it came to abuse of power is perhaps his spying on the Trump campaign. The Steele dossier on Trump (a partisan opposition research document funded by the DNC and the Hillary campaign loaded with loads of bogus and salacious accusations) was used to secure a FISA warrant to spy on the Trump campaign. Anti-Trump partisans were involved in the investigation, and based on text messages between investigators Peter Strzok and Lisa Page (who were having an affair) we know that Strzok saw the investigation as an “insurance policy” in case Trump won the election, and that Page, worried that Trump could win, was told by Strzok, “No. No he won't. We'll stop it.” Other text messages indicated that Obama wanted to be kept in the loop on their investigation. The independence and integrity of the FBI took a major blow during the Obama years, and we’re still learning just how bad it was.

5. Obama’s surveillance state

According to the ACLU there was a 64 percent growth in electronic spying by the United States government during Obama’s first term. The Obama administration argued in federal court in 2012 that the public has no “reasonable expectation of privacy” regarding their cell phone location data and that the government can obtain these records without a warrant. Further blemishing Obama’s record on civil liberties, his administration green-lighted a giant government database of information on millions of citizens who weren’t even suspected of terrorism or any crime at all.

In May 2017, we also found out that Obama’s National Security Agency had been conducting illegal searches on Americans for years and was rebuked by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC). We didn’t hear about it sooner because the Obama administration covered it up.

Security contractor Erik Prince (top), who has close ties to the Trump administration, recruited former American and British spies to perform sting operations and infiltrate Democratic organizations, a new report claims. The New York Times reported Saturday that Prince - Education Secretary Betsy DeVos' brother - recruited a former M16 agent, Richard Seddon, to help run a 2017 sting at the Michigan headquarters of the American Federation of Teachers. During the sting, the operative placed inside the organization, Marisa Jorge, 23, copied union files and taped conversations held in the office. Jorge was also said to have gone undercover in Rep. Abigail Spanberger's (D-Va.) congressional campaign prior to her election.

Top Four Obama Policies Trump Has Reversed

4. Purging Gitmo

As a candidate in 2007, Obama promised he would close the terrorist detention facility at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba (Gitmo), as soon as he was elected. He signed an executive order on January 22, 2009, requiring Gitmo to close within one year. Congress refused to go along, so instead of closing it, he systematically purged the prison of its terrorist inmates, as a sort of end-run around congressional opposition to closure. In 2003, there were 680 prisoners. By early January 2015, there were fewer than 130, and he continued releasing prisoners through the remainder of his second term.

One retired CIA officer estimated that at least 50 percent of those released from Gitmo returned to battle against American troops, and Paul Lewis, Obama’s special envoy for Guantanamo closure, confirmed that Americans have been killed by released Gitmo detainees.

3. Obamacare

Despite his campaign promise to bring Democrats and Republicans together to reform healthcare, Obama signed a trillion-dollar government takeover of one-sixth of the United States economy with zero Republican votes in the Senate and only one Republican vote in the House. Despite a promise of transparency, Obama and then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made sure that the final negotiations were held behind closed doors.

And who can forget the disastrous Obamacare rollout? Aside from website problems, there was evidence that the Obama administration fudged enrollment numbers to make it appear more successful and popular than it really was. Basically, everything connected to Obamacare was plagued with failure. The 23 taxpayer-funded healthcare co-ops nationwide established by Obamacare to compete with private health insurance providers proved to be unsustainable, and by January 2018, only four Obamacare co-ops remained. The Obamacare co-ops were basically the health insurance version of the Solyndra boondoggle, but bigger.

Malia Obama appears to be smoking pot at Lollapalooza

Malia Obama won’t be able to roll her way out of this one.

The 18-year-old first kid was caught smoking what looks like a joint at a concert in a video that emerged Wednesday.

The video, posted by Radar Online, shows Obama puffing away on the cigarette at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago last month.

In the 9-second clip, the elder child of President Obama can be seen in the background smoking as a young girl in the foreground of the video dances and sticks her tongue out.

An eyewitness claimed that Obama was smoking pot, according to the website.

Obama sparked some controversy in July after she skipped out on Hillary Clinton’s historic speech at the Democratic National Convention to rock out at Lollapalooza instead.

Photographs and videos of Obama also surfaced showing her bustin’ a move at the music fest.

6 Reasons Why Obama Is the Worst President in History - cont'd

The most insulting part of it all was that despite the high costs of Obamacare, health premiums went up and coverage got worse. Remember “if you like your plan you can keep it”? That was a lie. While the Obama administration often touted the increased numbers of people who had health insurance, the number of people who delayed seeking medical care because of costs did not improve. In fact, in November 2015, the percentage of people who reported delaying medical care over costs was higher than it was before Obama even took office. So, people were forced to buy insurance even if they didn't want it, and they still couldn't afford to seek medical care because of the higher premiums. Woo-hoo!

2. The worst economic recovery

There have been eleven recessions since World War II, each of which was followed by a recovery. Even Obama experienced an economic recovery… it just happens to be the worst one.

All jobs lost in post-World War II recessions were recovered after about twenty-five months on average. But, it took seventy-seven months for employment to return to pre-recession levels, making Obama’s recovery the slowest recovery of them all—and by a wide margin. Obama is also the only president in U.S. history to have never had a single year of 3.0 percent or greater GDP growth.

5 Times the Media Didn't Ask if Obama Would Resign

1. The largest deficits in history

When adjusted for inflation, Obama owns the seven highest deficits in history—surpassing the deficits incurred during World War II. Obama’s smallest deficit was still higher than the last deficit before he took office. While many try to argue that 2009’s spending should not count towards Obama’s spending record, 2009 was not actually constrained by the budget approved by President Bush. In fact, only three of FY2009’s 12 appropriations bills passed under Bush because the Democrats in Congress waited until Obama took office before going on a spending binge. So most of the spending that took place in 2009 was, in fact, approved by President Obama. This spending, which included Obama’s failed stimulus and bailouts, resulted in a 17.9 percent increase in spending over FY2008 compared to the 3 percent increase proposed by George W. Bush. This increase in spending was the highest annual spending increase since the Korean War.

***

There are a lot more where these came from. But the truth doesn't mean much unless more people are aware of it. Liberals desperately want Obama to be remembered as a great president despite his horrible record. Don't let them succeed.

Obama family tennis coach charged in college admissions scheme

A tennis instructor for former first lady Michelle Obama and her daughters, Malia and Sasha, was among dozens of people indicted by federal authorities in a college admissions scandal announced Tuesday.

Gordon Ernst, who previously served as a tennis coach at Georgetown University before becoming the women’s tennis coach at the University of Rhode Island, is accused of conspiracy to commit racketeering while he was employed at the Washington, D.C., school.

There is no suggestion in the indictment that the Obamas have been implicated in the scheme.

Prosecutors allege Gordon accepted more than $2.7 million in bribes between 2012 and 2018 to put at least 12 students on the Georgetown tennis teams, including students who did not play the sport competitively, according to the indictment.

The bribes were paid to Ernst through the nonprofit Key Worldwide Foundation founded by William Rick Singer in 2012. Singer was the architect of the scam, which involved cheating on college admission tests and bribing college coaches.

Dozens of wealthy parents paid bribes to get their children into elite colleges, including Georgetown, Yale University, Stanford University, UCLA, the University of San Diego, University of Southern California, Wake Forest, and University of Texas, prosecutors said.

The scandal also implicated actresses Lori Loughlin, who starred in “Full House,” and Felicity Huffman, who is known for her role in “Desperate Housewives.”

Ernst served as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Georgetown from 2006 until the December 2017. He left the position in January 2018.

A university spokesperson told The Georgetown Voice in a statement Tuesday that Ernst left his role “following an internal investigation that found he had violated University rules concerning admissions.”

Ernst was placed on administrative leave at the University of Rhode Island on Tuesday after the announcement of the federal charges.

The fragile legacy of Barack Obama

t becomes clearer every day that Barack Obama, a historic president, presided over a somewhat less than historic presidency. With only one major legislative achievement (Obamacare)—and a fragile one at that—the legacy of Obama’s presidency mainly rests on its tremendous symbolic importance and the fate of a patchwork of executive actions.

How much of that was due to fate and how much was due to Obama’s own shortcomings as a politician is up for debate and is a question that emerges from Princeton historian Julian Zelizer’s new edited volume, The Presidency of Barack Obama.

With contributions from seventeen historians, the book bills itself as “a first historical assessment” of the Obama presidency. The overwhelming consensus, Zelizer writes, is that Obama “turned out to be a very effective policymaker but not a tremendously successful party builder.” This “defining paradox of Obama’s presidency” comes up again and again: the historians, by and large, approve of Obama’s policies (although some find them too timid) while they lament his politics.

The politics were pretty disastrous. As Zelizer summarizes, “During his presidency, even as he enjoyed reelection and strong approval ratings toward the end of this term, the Democratic Party suffered greatly. . . . Democrats lost more than one thousand seats in state legislatures, governors’ mansions, and Congress during his time in office.” Zelizer could have gone further. According to
Ballotpedia, more Democratic state legislative seats were lost under Obama than under any president in modern history.

Yet even with such political fallout, the overall tone of the book is surprisingly wistful. Or perhaps it is unsurprising when you notice that it was written shortly after the 2016 election. The contributors, like the nation, were shell-shocked by the results, and the book, which has a few strong chapters, suffers from the sting of Donald Trump’s victory—after which it became difficult to say anything negative about a normal president.

As such, the book frequently makes excuses for Obama. As Zelizer says in the very first chapter, “The President could take Speaker of the House John Boehner out to play as much golf and drink as much bourbon as their hearts desired, but it wouldn’t make one iota of difference.” Some of the contributors likewise treat Obama’s political problems as if Obama had nothing to do with them, and in so doing they tend to absolve Obama himself from any responsibility for them.

Obama, the Thin-Skinned President

[Chief political aide David] Axelrod also warned that Obama's confessions of youthful drug use, described in his memoir, Dreams From My Father, would be used against him. “This is more than an unpleasant inconvenience,” he wrote. “It goes to your willingness and ability to put up with something you have never experienced on a sustained basis: criticism. At the risk of triggering the very reaction that concerns me, I don't know if you are Muhammad Ali or Floyd Patterson when it comes to taking a punch. You care far too much what is written and said about you. You don't relish combat when it becomes personal and nasty. When the largely irrelevant Alan Keyes attacked you, you flinched,” he said of Obama's 2004 U.S. Senate opponent.

"I thought of this memo after reading the comment by Sen. Pat Roberts after he and other Senate Republicans had a contentious 80-minute meeting with the president on Tuesday. “He needs to take a Valium before he comes in and talks to Republicans,” Roberts said. “He's pretty thin-skinned.”

Sen. Roberts is being too generous. Obama is among the most thin-skinned presidents we have had, and we see evidence of it in every possible venue imaginable, from one-on-one interviews to press conferences, from extemporaneous remarks to set speeches.

The president is constantly complaining about what others are saying about him. He is upset at Fox News, and conservative talk radio, and Republicans, and people carrying unflattering posters of him. He gets upset when his avalanche of faulty facts are challenged, like on health care. He gets upset when he is called on his hypocrisy, on everything from breaking his promise not to hire lobbyists in the White House to broadcasting health care meetings on C-SPAN to not curtailing earmarks to failing in his promises of transparency and bipartisanship.""
