Chinese Hotel Used As 'Coronavirus Quarantine Site' Collapsed In Qunazhou, Fujian Province

Zero Hedge: Dozens Trapped After Chinese Hotel Used As 'Coronavirus Quarantine Site' Collapses

A five-story hotel that was reportedly being used as a temporary Covid-19 quarantine site has collapsed in the southeastern Chinese province of Fujian on Saturday, state media reports.

Emergency crews are frantically working to pull victims, who are apparently either all suspected or confirmed coronavirus cases, from the rubble. "23 people have been rescued as of 9pm local time. A total of 70 people were reportedly trapped under the collapsed building in Quanzhou, Fujian," China's People's Daily reports.

Early video from hotel collapse aftermath shows a large area in which the building is reduced to ruble, with dozens of first responders combing through it.

WNU Editor: Long time readers of this blog know that when I go to China I always stop by  Qunazhou. I lived in this city in the 1980s. I never stayed at the Xinjia Hotel (the hotel opened in 2018), but I know the construction firm that built this hotel. To say that I am shocked right now is an understatement.

You know the construction firm.

By name?

By reputation?

By a little more?

I do not expect you to be a civil engineer (neither am I), but do you know a little more?

In about 2 weeks, I'll look though some industry press to try to get a post mortem on the collapse.

First thought: now the fallout from the hysterical overreaction has moved beyond economic pain and has cost lives. Second thought: round up the ubdestiables with a viral infection as the cover for the action, pack them into a quarantine facility, and engoberr a "collapse" of said facility eliminating the undesirables with the virus serving as convenient cover.

Trump Org charged taxpayers eight times more for Secret Service stays than it claimed: documents
Published 4 hours ago on March 7, 2020 By Igor Derysh, Salon
4-6 minutes

President Donald Trump’s properties have charged taxpayers nearly eight times more than previously claimed for Secret Service stays, according to new documents obtained by the watchdog group Public Citizen.

Eric Trump has claimed that Secret Service agents “stay at our properties for free — meaning, like, cost for housekeeping.” He insisted last year that “we charge them, like, 50 bucks.”

But receipts obtained by Public Citizen and first reported by The Washington Post show that Trump’s properties have charged the Secret Service $396 per night for 177 rentals at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort since he took office.

The Post previously reported that some Trump properties charge taxpayers as much as $650 per room. The president’s Bedminster, N.J. golf club also charged $17,000 per month for Secret Service agents to rent a cottage on the property. The Secret Service continued to pay for the cottage even after he left.

The report found that taxpayers spent more than $471,000 on Trump properties, but the new receipts show that the Trump Organization charged Secret Service an additional $157,000 since 2017, bringing the total to more than $628,000.

Eric Trump insisted to The Post that the company charges Secret Service agents “at cost,” but the rates reveal that Mar-a-Lago charged Secret Service double what it charged officials from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Unlike other government officials, Secret Service agents who are on duty are exempt from federal limits on hotel spending for federal employees. Past presidents and vice presidents allowed the Secret Service to use space on their properties for free, according to The Post.

Trump has spent 355 days, or nearly a full third of his presidency, at his own properties. After reviewing hundreds of Trump property stays, The Post was unable to find any instance in which the Trump Organization charged agents for $50, as Eric Trump claimed, or even below $100.

What went wrong with the coronavirus tests in the U.S.

B.Poster said...

The flu is real!! Auto accidents are real!! It would be downright "foolish" to stop the entire economy and the world over these things.

The hysterical overreaction to this has already moved beyond very real economic pain but has endangered lives. In a rush to keep up with the hysteria, defective test kits were sent out meaning it's got to be done over losing valuable time. Also, not wishing to be subjected to a draconian government quarantine some reports indicate people have lied about where they travelled. For much the same reason, I can envision people who think they may have been infected not choosing to self-report or seek medical care. The overreaction to this has been foolish indeed. That is unless it is by design.

Only 1,895 people in the US have definitively been tested for coronavirus, according to a new investigation.

The Atlantic could only verify that as many tests had been run, despite federal officials claims that they now have capacity to test 15,000 Americans for the virus that's infected nearly 300 across the country and killed 15.

US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been widely criticized for first distributing a flawed test, then only providing states with a couple hundred test each.

And officials from President Trump's coronavirus task force have had to walk back many of their promises for expediting and more widely distributing tests.

FRED LAPIDES,

Just one Michelle Obama vacay covers Secret Service charges for a few months.

New Obama vacation costs uncovered; They now exceed $70 million

Compare Obama to Trump. Trump comes out ahead.

Less cost for vacay
Better Economy
Higher employment

"US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been widely criticized for first distributing a flawed test,"

Says the chemical engineer with the English degree.

While I don't understand why this particular batch was 'bad', we'll find out in the following days. Well, at least some of us will. Others won't unless they are to parrot it and will be off to other sloganeering efforts like good a communist.

The batch might have been suitable for industrial or commercial grad, but pharmaceutical level chemicals are held to a higher standard of purity do the throughput has to be greater. It is one reason things are more expensive in America.

I don't think you typical Humanities puke has been in a production environment unless it was a Humanities class in college where they herd 3,000 of them together like cattle. Now there is real quality.

What could be more emblematic of the state of China right now...

Could the Chinese purposefully gave the US a bad batch of precursor chemicals?

To try to affect the election?

But "Wussa WUSSA! WUSSA?" screams the misfit.

WASHINGTON — Erik Prince, the security contractor with close ties to the Trump administration, has in recent years helped recruit former American and British spies for secretive intelligence-gathering operations that included infiltrating Democratic congressional campaigns, labor organizations and other groups considered hostile to the Trump agenda, according to interviews and documents.

One of the former spies, an ex-MI6 officer named Richard Seddon, helped run a 2017 operation to copy files and record conversations in a Michigan office of the American Federation of Teachers, one of the largest teachers’ unions in the nation. Mr. Seddon directed an undercover operative to secretly tape the union’s local leaders and try to gather information that could be made public to damage the organization, documents show.

Using a different alias the next year, the same undercover operative infiltrated the congressional campaign of Abigail Spanberger, then a former C.I.A. officer who went on to win an important House seat in Virginia as a Democrat. The campaign discovered the operative and fired her.

Both operations were run by Project Veritas, a conservative group that has gained attention using hidden cameras and microphones for sting operations on news organizations, Democratic politicians and liberal advocacy groups. Mr. Seddon’s role in the teachers’ union operation — detailed in internal Project Veritas emails that have emerged from the discovery process of a court battle between the group and the union — has not previously been reported, nor has Mr. Prince’s role in recruiting Mr. Seddon for the group’s activities.

Both Project Veritas and Mr. Prince have ties to President Trump’s aides and family. Whether any Trump administration officials or advisers to the president were involved in the operations, even tacitly, is unclear. But the effort is a glimpse of a vigorous private campaign to try to undermine political groups or individuals perceived to be in opposition to Mr. Trump’s agenda.

Mr. Prince, the former head of Blackwater Worldwide and the brother of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, has at times served as an informal adviser to Trump administration officials. He worked with the former national security adviser Michael T. Flynn during the presidential transition. In 2017, he met with White House and Pentagon officials to pitch a plan to privatize the Afghan war using contractors in lieu of American troops. Jim Mattis, then the defense secretary, rejected the idea.

Mr. Prince appears to have become interested in using former spies to train Project Veritas operatives in espionage tactics sometime during the 2016 presidential campaign. Reaching out to several intelligence veterans — and occasionally using Mr. Seddon to make the pitch — Mr. Prince said he wanted the Project Veritas employees to learn skills like how to recruit sources and how to conduct clandestine recordings, among other surveillance techniques.

James O’Keefe, the head of Project Veritas, declined to answer detailed questions about Mr. Prince, Mr. Seddon and other topics, but he called his group a “proud independent news organization” that is involved in dozens of investigations. He said that numerous sources were coming to the group “providing confidential documents, insights into internal processes and wearing hidden cameras to expose corruption and misconduct.”

“No one tells Project Veritas who or what to investigate,” he said.

A spokesman for Mr. Prince declined to comment. Emails sent to Mr. Seddon went unanswered.

Mr. Prince is under investigation by the Justice Department over whether he lied to a congressional committee examining Russian interference in the 2016 election, and for possible violations of American export laws. Last year, the House Intelligence Committee made a criminal referral to the Justice Department about Mr. Prince, saying he lied about the circumstances of his meeting with a Russian banker in the Seychelles in January 2017.

Trump, speaking from the CDC, declared that there were plenty of test kits, that “anyone that needs a test, gets a test,” and he went beyond declaring their availability to claim that the tests were “beautiful.” In fact perfect — just like his call to the president of Ukraine. And yes, Trump made that comparison.

x

WTF, “The Tests Are Beautiful”?
Trump is straight up lying about the access to tests! watch the Dr’s faces. Trump really should read the News! pic.twitter.com/NAXR0qfbBK
— Mystery Solvent (@MysterySolvent) March 6, 2020

But even as Trump was firmly declaring his own genius—and calling Washington Governor Jay Inslee a “snake” who should not be trusted—back in Washington, Mike Pence was explaining that the CDC had fallen short of goals. Again. Though hundreds of thousands of tests are supposedly “in the mail,” it will be at least another week before they begin to be available in the numbers needed. As a result, only a fraction of suspected cases around the nation have been tested, patients with good reason to suspect exposure are still denied tests despite supposedly relaxed guidelines.

As Americans are genuinely frightened and looking to the government for leadership, what they’re getting instead is Donald Trump bragging about how he can put on his big boy panties all by himself, while being smiled at with approval by a CDC director Trump put in place not in spite of the fact that he was considered “an abysmal choice” whose contribution to the AIDS crisis was working with a group that considering it “God’s judgement on homosexuals.” He was put in that role because he’s just a terrible choice — because he knows he’s there for no other reason than to praise Trump and take a paycheck. He’s just another part of a system built to fail.

You are so off base that you make Poster look like a good & smart guy by comparison.

No one is coming close to claiming this would decimate any population. That is 1 in 10 people in case you didn't know.

So, if it won't decimate any population, it is not going to wipe Moscow.

of course it will not wipe out any entire city...but Poster pretends nothing to worry about in America. My answer: devote energy to your home away from Siberian home....nice try anon 1:44 but as usual meaningless snark. fail. fail fail.

Meanwhile gays want and wanted to keep on having orgies in bathhouses with anonymous strangers. Sounds very liberal.

Which of course is none of my business until they want me to foot their hospital bill after they are done having their fun, tell kids that it is healthy, and donate tainted blood.

Meanwhile Redfield was working with Rene Gallo. Recognize the name?

But maybe libtards have a valid point. Maybe Randy Shilts should be the CDC director?

3:28 aka (you know who)

There was this study that wives had their math ability boosted 10 points, if their husband had greater math ability.

You would think that would work the other way.

Thing I cannot understand, is why you are not smarter considering your wife is educated. You come across as and are a functional illiterate in science and medicine. All I can say is, poor woman to be stuck with a creep, who must looks up porn all daily.

Anon (1:44),

Not sure what it has to do with Moscow but Moscow does seem to be living rent free in your head. At this point, my biggest worry is the overreaction. While 1500 is certainly a large number, it likely pales in comparison to influenza and any number of other diseases that kill people. If this does become a major problem, the overreaction at the outset may make the problem harder to deal with as I address elsewhere.

B.Poster said...

Anon 3:28, 3:11,

"Nothing to worry about..." actually there's plenty to worry about. Already the overreaction has caused very real economic pain and remember who seems to have the biggest problems with this. It's those whose health is already compromised and/or are elderly. In many societies such people are not treated well. An unscrupulous government could use this as cover to eliminate entire groups of people.

So, no this isn't likely to wipe out an entire city. Even that level of hysteria seems a bit much for even the pushers of this right now.

I don't know Fazman. We put up the Hoover Dam pretty quick and this is nowhere near as large. Hoover had continuous concrete pours.

I don't how quick the slab cured (given ambient temperature and mix used), but it depends on how well that as done, the steel work and the electrical and plumbing.

I also think it depends on the contractor. In the states they had a pedestrian bridge that collapsed in Florida. TPTB wanted to be inclusive, so they chose the beta team or maybe the zeta team.
