Beware Of Chinese N-95 Masks

IBTimes: Pakistan gets Chinese underwear as N95 masks

Pakistan said 'China ne choona laga diya' as they claim China ended up sending N95 masks which are made out of underwear to Pakistan, according to a Pakistan news channel.

In a rather hilarious and an uncanny incident, China, the now 'fair-weathered' friend of Pakistan, had promised 'top quality' medical aid to Pakistan for fighting the deadly coronavirus infection has ended up sending N95 masks made out of underwear. China actually duped Pakistan as its 'top quality' aid failed to be of any help for Pakistan.

Reporting the news, the anchor of the Pakistani news channel said, "China ne chuna laga diya," which in English means China actually conned us (Pakistan).

This also pointed at the lackadaisical approach of the Pakistani Government as these masks were sent to the hospitals without checking the consignment that came in from China. Pakistan's friend China had promised to send top-quality N-95 masks to the country affected by Coronavirus.

In a Tweet posted by Maj (Retd) Gaurav Arya, it is stated that China sent N95 masks made out of underwear. This was reported by the Pakistan media.

WNU Editor: I would be very careful with anything coming out of China right now.  On a side note. I am being flooded with N-95 deals in the past few days, and all of them are coming from China .... see here, and here. These deals may look tempting, but my advice to everyone .... do not take them.

I do not get it.

Chinese factories and workers are capable of producing high quality stuff, when they want to.

Wouldn't it be much easier to produce quality and sell it at cost plus 10% or something? You make a profit, you get repeat business, no one is mad at you.

I agree Anon. The Chinese can make good stuff when they want to.

I agree with Anon and WNU editor. If you compare their small arms production quality to other non western countries, particularly in their Polytech 386 and Norinco factories for ComBloc AK pattern rifle variants, they do a top tier job close* to par with Russian Tula and Molot factory and Bulgarian Arsenal factory firearms. Really good stuff.

In the 1990s, I represented a number of international fishing and timber and mining companies that did business with Russia. This was not so long after the fall of the Soviet Union and there were a bunch of large Russian companies — many of them formerly state-owned — looking to do deals with my clients, mostly American and Western European companies. My clients would set up long term deals with these Russian companies which nearly always went bad quickly because the Russian company would grab whatever money there was and walk away.

This would leave my clients dumbfounded at how the Russian company would so “irrationally” sacrifice so much money in the long term to grab a relatively small amount of money in the short term. I would find myself explaining the following to them:

You have to understand that for most Russian companies there is no long term. They are used to the Soviet Union where the rules and the laws constantly and unpredictably changed to their detriment. They do not believe they will be able to operate freely five years or even one year from now. So though you see them as having irrationally sacrificed massive long term gains for much smaller short term rewards, they see themselves as having quite rationally grabbed what they could while it was still there.

I am writing about this now because China today is feeling a lot like Russia in the 1990s. I am getting the sense that many Chinese companies are pessimistic about their futures and they are acting accordingly. Our China lawyers are seeing evidence of this everywhere.

Your thoughts WNU?

Seems like China - again and again - does everything to spread this disease. First deny it happened. Then deny it spreads from human to human. Then mislead on data. Then send and gift faulty test kits.

This is the most reckless behaviour by any country in a long time. Could have killed us all. Might still.

People have made the wrong calculations regarding the black death and the 1918 flu.

The WSJ had a an article on the cholera outbreak of 15 to 20 years ago. The disease will evolve to 'survive'. In a country with modern hygiene and hospital system it will evolve to become less virulent to survive. They compared Chile to Peru to make their point.

Maybe China did release a bioweapon on purpose. I kind of doubt it. But if they did and it cause great damage, look for a viral attack on critical infrastructure to make the effects cascade. Again, I doubt it. If anything this escaped from a lab.

I agree with you in that it might be a lab escapee, maybe from stock for future development. How did they miscalculate the Black Death?

The miscalculate the Black Death the same way they miscalculate the 1918 flu.

They assume a large death toll for the disease nowadays, but the knowledge and nutrition and communication bases are different.

It is amazing how often period pieces show peasant in grinding poverty in the Middle Ages and then they turn around and expect us to have the same compromised immune system as starving peasants.

Black Death exists in animal reservoirs around the world to this day. And no plague. Occasionally someone will get sick, but not often.

Personally, I am more worried about catching hanta virus than Black Death. American Indians of the South West would move out of their house than risk catching hanta virus from a rodent.

There’s also the laws in China. Which don’t let you sue to get your money back from companies there. I remember quite a few articles on that.

I agree. Having a long term view on business is not the rule for Russian businessmen and organizations. The exceptions are the large companies. But for those companies that did adopt the long term approach towards business in the 1990s are the companies that are doing well now, and will survive this Covid-19 recession/depression. I am proud to say that the real-estate management and development company that my father and his brother set up in the 1990s is one of the most successful real-estate companies in Russia today, and all built because of that long-term view (and staying away from debt and negative cash-flow).

Continuation from above,

The old and established companies in China do have a long term view, and I have never had problems with them when a deal was signed. But everyone else .... I have seen enough examples over the years from other companies on why they should not be trusted.
