Fugitive US whistleblower Edward Snowden has been granted permanent residency in Russia, his lawyer said today.

Snowden, the former US intelligence contractor who revealed in 2013 that the US government was spying on its citizens, has been living in exile in Russia since the revelations.

The 37-year-old has said he would like to return to the United States.

His lawyer Anatoly Kucherena said on Thursday that his residency permit was extended and is now indefinite.

WNU Editor: He is eligible for Russian citizenship, but choose not to apply. This tells me that he wants to return back to the US.

Whatever his original motives, noble or not, his conduct on the run is that of a paid spy. Off to China as his first destination. Off to Moscow some days later. Now permanent residency. Why did Beijing and Moscow accommodate this guy?

He sold the US house secrets. He became a traitor. Never comes back.

Who is the bigger enemy, The Russians or The Democrats?

Maybe we should clean house first before looking out. A house divided cannot stand.

Did Snowden consider approaching a senator and letting him/her take this on or did he figure if he did, he would simply be disappeared? For conservatives this is a real issue. We suspect that a few people have been disappeared. It was always blamed on street crime.

A hate the Deep State and Snowden, but at some point you have to to choose. You cannot say a pox on both houses. To not choose is still to choose. Snowden is one person. He could become a cult figure, but barring that he is less dangerous than the Deep State.

Why would Snowden want come back?

This place is FUBAR.

Anon (4:17 & 4:22),

Well said. There's really not much else to add. "Maybe we should clean house first...." Certainly with the incompetence of many of our civilian and military leaders in both parties it would be problematic at best to try and tussle with a major world power. For what its worth it appears to me that in many circles Snowden already has become a cult figure.

Poster,
I think WNU is right, Snowden wants to return to the US. It's also a signal from Putin that he'll deal (maybe part of START talks). The timing is interesting.

Dear B Imposter,

You are trolling again.

Snowden might not be hip enough to be a cult figure. He is white and has not come out anti-racist. Things have changed.

There you go again with the Russia, China or both are always better than the US.

Seems to me that not only did China FUCK Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam and FUCK them hard, but they might also have fucked themselves over and lost the mandate of heaven. I'll let you figure that one out on your own buddy boy.

Do you remember when the Cuban agent answered the phone when his girlfriend called in Clear & Present Danger?

Anon (6:59),

Very respectfully the post is about Snowden. You delved into a varieties of other topics which is by definition trolling. In contrast, I stayed on topic.

I suppose it depends upon how we define "cult figure." I would define it as a person who has a substantial devoted following in whose eyes he/she can do vo wrong and I believe by this definition Snowden would qualify.

I did not say Russia and China are always better than the US nor have I ever said. Please read the posts ib their entirety.

Last 2 paragraphs went over your head. 2nd to last para supported the one before it. If that is lost on you, well then you are not very bright.

You've seen the last para before, so if that is Greek to you that is on you.

When addressing anonymous it's hard to know which one I'm addressing. Now assuming anon 6:59 and 11:32 are the same and 11:59 is directed at me, last 2 paragraphs: they did not go over my head. I chose not to address them because they aren't relevant to the topic at hand.

As for the topic at hand, I don't think Snowmen wants to come back. He apoears to have a lifestyle in Russia that couldn't be matched in the US and has been mentioned above America is FUBAR right now. Maybe Trump can fix it IF like minded Republicans can take the House, gain seats in the Senate, the entire military leadership can be purged, and the (un)intelligence services completely rebuilt from the ground up. Even if Snowden comes back he has such a devoted following (cult like) that it's going to be hard to arrest him or convict him. As such, the US government doesn't really want him back. Better to keep him there we he can't do anymore damage.

Now very briefly your last two paragraphs. China doesn't seem to play with the countries you mention. Unfortunately I don't see any of them being able to confront China in the way you seem to want them to nor would I recommend permanent alliances with any of them as I don't trust them. Also, while China has been less than forthcoming on COVID-19 the primary problem is the lockdowns not the virus. China did not order the lockdowns.

The last paragraph apoears to be from a movie. As any. Unitary veteran will tell you, with very few exceptions these do not reflect reality. If not from a movie, I've learned to be extremely skeptical of the media. Nevertheless it doesn't seem relevant to the Snowden case.

You second to last para shows that you still don't get it.

China will do something unseen in the annals of jujitsu.

B.Poster said...

Jujitsu, interesting analogy. So what do you think they are going to do?

While the virus can be and is a significant problem or deadly to a small few, it clearly did not warrant "lockdowns." China did not order this. These were entirely self inflicted. Our government and other western governments either stupidly or nefariously did this. In doing this, essentially we attacked ourselves!! Is that part of the plan, get your enemies to attack themselves?!?

For what its worth, my "take" on the virus is it is a naturally occurring pathogen that escaped from a lab because certain people were careless. Even cult leader Fauci doesn't think this is a bioweapon. Perhaps off topic but this would be the only way one could possibly justify the lockdowns yet he admits its not a bioweapon!! As stated, China has been less than forthcoming on how all of this happened or in helping to halt the spread. Unfortunately when confronted with this they did what many humans do try and cover it up!! Absolutely they should be held to account for their actions here. It may be problematic for us to do this as I am sure we are working with much the same stuff and our labs are equally sloppy with this sort of thing and we were just very blessed it did not come from one of our labs.

Had this come from one of our labs the blowback against us would have been beyond severe yet China has faced only a bare minimum of criticism for this. I suppose this is what happens when one is the world's top factory who supplies much of what people need, kind of hard to hold them to account.

Now I will reiterate what I've been saying for awhile now. The virus is a problem but it is NOT the key problem. The key problem is the lockdowns. The problem posed by the virus is miniscule compared to this. In fact, the effects of lockdown are still being felt and will be with us for a VERY LONG TIME. Remember, poverty and mental illness are death. To the extent that China oversold the threat and got our leadership to act in this manner, the Chinese certainly should be held accountable for this. While where at this, officials like Fauci and Birx need to be held to account as well and in my opinion should be punished as severely as the law will allow. At the risk of being to blunt, these are the worst kind of vermin.
