Washington (CNN)The Biden administration has proposed to the Afghan government that they enter an interim power-sharing agreement with the Taliban in a letter from Secretary of State Antony Blinken to President Ashraf Ghani.
Blinken also proposed that Afghanistan's neighbors, including Iran, take on a greater role and warned that the Biden administration continues to review whether to withdraw US troops by a May 1 deadline set under the Trump administration.
The letter, sent via US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad, offers the first real look at the Biden administration's thinking about Afghanistan, and appeared to reflect frustration as Blinken wrote that he wanted Ghani "to understand the urgency of my tone."

WNU Editor: Both the Afghan government and the Taliban have bluntly stated that they will not take part in such an interim government. So why make the offer in the first place when all the parties are adamantly saying no?
The impression that I get from this US offer is that they do not know what they are doing, and right now they are just throwing crap on the wall to see what sticks.

The Afghan people have voted in elections for 2 presidents. I do not recall them voting for power sharing with the Taliban.
China or Pakistan will end up with Afghanistan. China will pacify Afghanistan. The Russians almost did. If you look at what Russian advisers counseled Afghan communist leaders, Russian leaders come across smarter than you may first think.
IF you offset American aid levels to the muj by 1 year. The Russians would have won in Afghanistan. It was close. Point is the Chinese are going to be the Russians on steroids.
It might be as simple as Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Iran, Pakistan and China all getting pieces. Pakistan might have severe problems and maybe they won't cut it. But if Pakistan cuts aid, rolls up the Haqqani network as best it can, and fights hard, the Taliban are gone.
