I tend to..."Trump sill not goad Russia." I tend to agree. Doing such a thing would be most unwise. There assistance here would be most helpful. Unfortunately it is not likely to be forthcoming in the current environment.

At this time, the Russian leadership either seems sore confused or is actively working against America. It seems that North Korea's threats, goading if one will, of America is being ignored or downplayed. In doing this, the Russians and others are approaching the problem from the wrong direction.

In order to solve this problem, America and Americans must have assurances that they are safe. North Korea has China and Russia to back it up and it appears to have excellent relations with countries like Iran. As such, North Korea and its leaders are totally safe.

"Have they forgotten about Georgia already?" I suspect they haven't. Georgia was a de facto member of NATO and a force hostile to Russia. Part of the agreement to end Cold War 1 was an agreement not to expand NATO to former Soviet and Eastern Bloc countries.

The big mistake was not getting this in writing. After the rhetoric of Ronald Reagan naturally the US couldn't be seen making any concessions. Of course no one at the time dreamed that NATO members would actually be stupid enough to expand NATO towards Russia. As such, they probably felt they did not need to put this in writing!! Given the situation, it seems understandable why Russia acted as they did with regards to Georgia.
