WNU Editor: This is not forward progress. But what makes me shake my head is that the Pentagon believes that this is proof that the Islamic State is now in a "defensive posture". Sighhh .... something is not computing here.

  1. I'm still thinking Kobane is where ISIS is fixing our attention, resources, and reactions, while they work on the larger picture/prize. Or as our 3 dimensional chess playing President might just maybe understand it's the "Kobane Gambit" declined.

  3. I'm a Paul Morphy fan. I didn't know Russians knew how to play chess.

  4. I think one is seeing gains because the IS has co-opted various rebel groups and Sunni elements. The Arab "strong horse" mentality at work, even though I suspect a lot of the strength is other than Arab

What hasn't been co-opted has subsequently been subjugated, especially in the eastern Syria/western Iraq region.
