Is American Ready For The Next Big War?

David Barno and Nora Bensahel, War On The Rocks: Preparing For The Next Big War

“For almost twenty years we had all of the time and almost none of the money; today we have all of the money and no time.”

Those words were spoken by Army Chief of Staff George Marshall in 1940 as he was facing the imminent entry of the United States into World War II. He was lamenting the fact that when large conflicts suddenly arrive, all the money in the world cannot magically fix military shortfalls overnight. It is not hard to imagine a future Army chief of staff uttering those same words on the eve of a truly big war.

Between 1945 and 1989, the looming threat of global war between the United States and the Soviet Union informed every aspect of U.S. military preparations, from doctrine to organization to weaponry. But since the end of the Cold War, the U.S. military has not been sized, organized, and globally postured to fight a large-scale and bloody war.

WNU Editor: America is not ready for the next big war .... most countries rarely are. But this post does provide a good plan of action that the U.S. should implement to be prepared for that terrible day if it should arrive.

  1. The idea that war is inevitable has no basis, it's just dreamed up by the warmongers who will profit from it. In fact, a large military increases the chances of a major war. Just look at Pentagon performance over the past fifty years.
One major factor is that the US doesn't have the people to fight a major war. The younger generation has no interest in t, and besides two-thirds of the potential male enlistees are unqualified for various reasons, mainly obesity, so the military now has to rely on females to fill the ranks. Of course they need maternity leave, lactation rooms and all the rest, plus they can't lift much.
So the think tankers can go back and think some more, and this time get in the real world.

  2. War is not inevitable!
American are not prepared to fight a war if it does happen!
We better get our shjt together, because whether previous excursions were because of the MIC, tomorrow's war will not be by choice. It will be brought upon us. And it may be around the corner. So we better adjust are vision or lack thereof!
I have little hope of that eventuality.
    Therefore we're screwed
    Don is right.

  3. There is now a generic template to govern that is followed by majority of rulers in the world. With the information circulating so freely ones can't resist to compare itself and adjust for its best and security. Therefore, war is not wanted and the few that want it just don't have enough support for it since majorities feel more secure and right to follow the bigs of this world which are right after all. If Iran Russia and China develop a new world it will just be based on the current template with amelioration, no war will occure from that, since it is known by all already that it would have more negative impacts for them than good ones. China reach the limit of it, Iran too, Russia too and park there which is good.
