Is China's Xi The 'Most Dangerous' Foe Of Free Societies?

France 24: Soros calls China's Xi 'most dangerous' foe of free societies

Billionaire investor George Soros on Thursday said Chinese President Xi Jinping was "the most dangerous enemy" of free societies for presiding over a high-tech surveillance regime.

"China is not the only authoritarian regime in the world but it is the wealthiest, strongest and technologically most advanced," he said, noting concerns too about Vladimir Putin's Russia.

"This makes Xi Jinping the most dangerous opponent of open societies," Soros told a dinner audience on the margins of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

WNU Editor: George Soros is right. The rise of the surveillance state in China, and its use of technology to monitor and shape civilian behaviour, is one of the most under-reported stories in the main stream media today. In my opinion China will soon be the world's first "digital dictatorship", and it will be a model that other dictatorships and authoritarian regimes will want to emulate. This ABC News Online analysis is one of the best that I have read so far on what is happening in China .... Leave no dark corner (ABC News Online).

  1. Well sure he is a foe, no doubt chinese money is funneled into US think tanks, universities and the media with the express purpose to undermining US culture, mores, rule of law and love of country. No doubt about that at all.

The worse foes are our own. People who know what's going on and enable it. Look no further than those Americans who attacked Covington High School children over a deceptively edited video that was a slander. Those people are the worst enemy of a free and open society.

    1. Agreed. It reminded me of Kavanaugh. Remember how he was painted to be the villain, yet her story had more holes in it than a sieve.

  4. Lapides,
You insult commentors all the time and badly at that. You should wear a bib to protect your key board.

China has invaded the world through emigration for centuries although how many of those people now are really tied to the current government is questionable. In his documentary Fahrenheit 911 Michael Moore made the point that the Saudis owned about 7% of the US economy, at that time although no details were provided. It would be interesting to learn what the current number is, how it is made up and for comparison how Chinese ownership compares.

  7. China need to nothing but watch America as it self destructs. There are real emergencies in the USA that are ignored. Visit innumerable countries and compare what you see versus the USA.The USA is crumbling, it's infrastructure is crap, it's people mostly ignorant and all too many malnourished, poor, and look like crap.

The USA is lucky to get most immigrants who are willing to study and work hard or take jobs American's cannot or will not do.

Enough ignorant comments already about immigrants. Enough bread and circuses.

    1. If we are in as bad of shape as you claim, why are immigrants coming here by the droves?

There is always worse even when comparing to the USA but don't worry, if Trump stays in office you will find out first hand.

    1. If that is the case "There is always worse" then the above Anon's assessment of the US is incorrect. It would also be your personal belief that Trump would be the US's cause of decline.

  10. Migrants turn out to be great capitalists! Too many lazy or ignorant Americans opens great opportunity for these people. They are what many Americans used to be. Likely why so many conservative cut and runners are so scared of them. Competition scares them senseless.

You make no sense whatsoever. Until your grammar and grasp of the world improves, unintelligible you will remain.

  11. No, Trump is just the worst in a long line of mediocre leaders. American apathy plus inept politicians and rapacious oligarchs has left many I know looking like third worlders. It becomes really obvious when returning to the USA from abroad.

Of course there is worse. There are also an amazing number of America's former peers that put America to shame. It is a reality that Americans, people who rarely travel abroad, chose not to see.

Migrants often focus on the relatively small amount of free capitol remaining to the 90% to make it in the way that most American's reject.

  15. As far as Bangkok or Manila, I'm afraid I don't have your obvious familiarity with these places.
