There was a ship that had a pink eye epidemic. The XO was a victim. He was also pissed. Word got out that sweepers did not mean spray and wipe but soap and water. So many people were using metal handrails for the obvious safety reason that they were greasy with sebum and sweat. Once the effective cleaning took effect the epidemic was over. Red eye is fairly benign but a person could go blind.
IMO they do not have or spend enough and soap and water in China. Been there done that.
That plastic battier is how you spread viruses.
