Mission Statement

I am the editor and co-founder of BookYards, a free online library and education portal that was started a few weeks after 911. Our Wikipedia entry is here.

We founded the library because we believed that it will only be through education and the free flow of information that will overcome the culture and mind-set that led to 911. This is a point of view that has only strengthened with time, and is now our main focus.

One of the benefits that have come to me from the BookYards project, is that over time I developed a database of military/intelligence/security information that would have only been a dream five years ago. This access to information has also made me realize that the information and news that we are receiving on Iraq, Afghanistan, the War on Terror, and on all the wars and conflicts that are occurring around the globe ...... are either fragmentary, inaccurate, terribly bias, or (worse) following a certain agenda.

For the past five years I have been pushed by my colleagues to start this blog as a way to organize this jungle of information, to sort out the propaganda from the real "facts on the ground" . I have always declined because of the workload that I am under, and the priorities that have always preoccupied my time.

I also know that I do not know everything. That I also have my own biases and prejudices. That if anything, I would probably be the wrong person to do such a blog. My education, experience, and background makes me the "least competent" person to do this.

But even though I feel like this, I also strongly believe that I have something to contribute ..... and that in the end I may help to direct the debate in a positive matter.

This blog will be an aggregator on the news and information that concerns the many wars that we are presently involved in, the conflicts that are evolving, and the opinions and commentary from experts and specialists on these matters.

And sometimes ..... I will have my own two bits to contribute to the discussion.

  1. Thanks for doing this. I think one of the best ways to "Support Our Troops" is to give them our attention!

  2. I have a son heading to
    Afghanistan. I find that
I spend a lot of time trying
to read all I can. Your
    site heads my daily list.
    I shamelessly swipe your
    stuff and post to Facebook
    and my own meager blog.
    Thank you very much.

  3. Thanks for doing this. We weren't aware of your site when we started OneParagraphAnswers.

At OPA, we try to answer questions in 140 words or less, to give everyone the very basics of these conflicts. (http://oneparagraphanswers.wordpres)

I think our readers will benefit from reading your updates, once they get a basic idea.

We are linking to your blog in that hopes that some will visit.

    Regards,
    The OPA team

  4. Just stumbled upon your blog today. Will certainly be checking back on a daily basis as this is one of the most comprehensive news sources I have found that is relevant to our own blog. I hope you will get the chance to look at ours (it's brand new and we're trying to launch it into the blogspot community!) Well done on an excellent job and please continue with the news! MM

  5. With the world in crisis, and with America coping with the worst recession since the Great Depression, one has to ask what is to be gained by pissing on the President.

Is it going to sway votes? Is it going to cause him to change his ways? Is going to cause people who influence him to influence him to change his ways? Probably not.

On the other hand is it going to encourage people who don’t want to work with him to not work with him with the result that nothing will get done? Probably.

So why do it if not to act irresponsibly and to speak plainly, maliciously?
