Where Is Al Qaeda Going?

These two articles have recently caught my eyes:

The revolt against al-Qaeda From The Belmont Club
Lawrence Wright, author of the Looming Tower, a best-selling account of the beginnings of al-Qaeda, may now be chronicling its end. In a 14-page article in the New Yorker, Wright describes the revolt of al-Qaeda's theological pillars against its version of the Jihad.

Al Qaeda Opens a New Front From All About Realestate
Al Qaedas military commander in Afghanistan claims that the terror group coordinated the effort that led to the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in Rawalpindi, Pakistan yesterday. In a telephone interview with Asia Times Online (NSA boys, did you get this one on tape?), Mustafa Abu al-Yazid said that the killing was part of an al Qaeda plan to destabilize Pakistan by hitting at precious American assets there.

My Comment: Al Qaeda has been fragmented. Military operations against it, as well as its own actions against civilians, has resulted with the organization losing it's moral authority within the Muslim community. The fact that the original intellectuals who gave the organization it's moral voice throughout the Islamic community are now abandoning it will only speed up this process.

What is left of Al Qaeda will stay make it a lethal force. But if they think that they will be successful in overthrowing the Government of Pakistan .... they are dreaming.
