President Obama: Afghanistan War 'Evaluation' Needed -- Politico
With British support for the war in Afghanistan flagging and Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s government under fire following the deaths of 15 British soldiers in the past two weeks, President Barack Obama told a British television interviewer that there would be a re-evaluation of how to prosecute the war after Afghan elections in September.
“I think that all of us are going to have to do an evaluation after the Afghan election to see what more we can do,” Obama said in an interview broadcast Sunday on Sky News. “It may not be on the military side. It may be on the development side, providing Afghan farmers alternatives to poppy crops, making sure we’re effectively training a judiciary system and a rule of law in Afghanistan that people trust.”
