Japan Govt Should Admit Secret N-Deal With U.S. -- A Commentary

From The Daily Yomiuri:

It is no longer possible for the government to stand by its long-held position that there is no secret agreement between Japan and the United States that allows U.S. forces to bring nuclear weapons into Japanese territory. The time has come for the government to acknowledge the existence of this accord and explain to the public why the two nations concluded it.

In a recent interview with the news media, including The Yomiuri Shimbun, Ryohei Murata, a former administrative vice foreign minister, revealed the existence of the accord between the Japanese and U.S. governments under which Japan tacitly approves port calls and passage through Japanese territorial waters by U.S. warships carrying nuclear weapons.

My Comment: Are the Japanese concern about nuclear weapons on American ships in Japanese ports .... hmmmm .... I doubt it. Maybe 20 years ago there would have been massive demonstrations on the street protesting such a fact .... but today .... no. Most Japanese know that the threat to their lives does not come from the U.S., but it comes from places like North Korea and their Chinese enablers.

But should there be an accounting and open discussion on this topic in the Japanese Parliament .... if I was a Japanese citizen, I would want to know.
