From the Haaretz:

Now is the time to act to halt the Iranian nuclear program, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Senators and Congress members over the weekend.

The prime minister's message, which he made in telephone conversations, came a day after evidence of a clandestine Iranian nuclear facility was presented by U.S. President Barack Obama and the leaders of Britain and France at the G-20 economic summit in Pittsburgh.

"If not now, then when?" Netanyahu reportedly asked in the conversations with American officials.

My Comment
: Disclosure of Iran's second nuclear reactor .... built in secret .... is going to put pressure on the Israeli leadership to respond. In the past, the Israelis always relied on U.S. leadership and direction for handling issues like this one. But it appears that the Israelis have lost all confidence and trust in President Obama's leadership on this issue, and are probably now looking at all of their options.

But the troublesome quote from the above article is the following ....

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said on Saturday that the newly exposed nuclear facility in Iran was built for military purposes and was proof that the Islamic Republic is seeking atomic weapons.

There you have it .... a nuclear facility constructed for military purposes by a regime that is dedicated to your destruction. If I was the leader of Israel and this is what I believe in .... I would not hesitate to get the F-16s ready.

  1. Hi,
I am pretty curious about the Israeli respond to such a situation and I am sure, it should not be left without strong response of interantional community too.

  2. Thank you Jay for your comment.

I think the Israelis are not sure of themselves of what to do. If they were, they would have done something about it a long time ago.

But this discovery of a second site will put pressure on them to react, and I am sure that they are now formulating and laying down their options and strategy.

If I was to put a timetable for an Israeli military response, I would put it after the international negotiations have been concluded. If failure is the result, the Israelis will respond at the beginning of 2011.
