From The New York Times:

DOCOL, Somalia — One in five Somali children is wasting away from malnutrition. Tens of thousands need urgent medical care to survive. The whole middle belt of the country is teetering on the brink of famine. United Nations officials say Somalia has not been in such perilous shape since the central government collapsed in 1991 and is in desperate need of help.

Update: U.S. delays Somalia aid, fears terror ties -- UPI

My Comment: These fears are completely justified. The refugees and starving children are not going to be fed from Western aid. If anything, Western aid is now being used to feed the armies and militias that are perpetuating and prolonging this horror show.

Unless we are willing to send our own troops to distribute this aid .... all other efforts will just be a waste of time. Unfortunately .... the last time this happened resulted in "Black Hawk Down" and the killing of scores of U.S. servicemen. I am sure that for most Americans who remember that event .... there will be little if any enthusiasm to repeat history.
