By the 2020’s the United States Air Force is going to be much smaller than most could ever dream.
Due to the realities struggling just to sustain day to day operations and very little to be had from the defense budget, expect something like the following for some parts the USAF platform portfolio.
F-22s start to retire
Much fewer numbers of F-35s than projected—in the hundreds— with a lesser than planned flight envelope ability and a basic (what would be considered Block III today) capability with little funds to go any farther on upgrades.
