CBS News Reporter Under Fire In Afghanistan

Lara Logan Under Fire -- CBS News 60 Minutes

Listen as Ann Silvio interviews Lara Logan about the brutal ambush that she and her "60 Minutes" team survived in Afghanistan

It's no accident that "60 Minutes" correspondent Lara Logan took CBS News cameraman R.A. Bribiesca on her most recent trip to Afghanistan, she said in an interview with "60 Minutes Overtime" editor Ann Silvio.

"Ray B." has not only been covering wars for decades -- he is also a Vietnam vet.

In this video, you'll see how "60 Minutes" captured such riveting battle footage from the Afghan-Pakistan border: Ray B. risked his life to shoot footage of Lara and U.S. soldiers being ambushed in a well-orchestrated attack by foreign fighters.

My Comment: The real story is not Lara Logan, the real focus should be on her camera man and the risks that he takes while filming this ambush.

  1. Great video, but she clearly has no clue.

"Well orchestrated attack" - looks like they just opened up and didn't hit anything, nor did they coordinate or orchestrate anything about their attack on that patrol.

"There's no safe place any more" - Amazing, you head into a known enemy stronghold on a chaotic border and encounter...enemy fighters. Who knew? And from that you can extrapolate that to...everywhere! WRONG!

"Wherever you are, you're being hunted." Strangely, that's the exact view the Taliban have portrayed about their lives. Don't confuse the reaction of the prey to the reaction of the hunters. The Taliban know who is who as do the numbers - over 3,000 Taliban casualties in 90 days from just Special Forces ops.

She is quite simply shoving her fears and mis-perceptions onto everyone else. She seemed to me to be terrified and completely confused as to what was going on. "It was mayhem inside that vehicle"..."in the midst of the chaos in that vehicle" - Um, looked like a well disciplined response to me while they finished recovering the vehicles and personnel, and then left the ambush site. Where was all this chaos?

Her cameraman, Ray B, seemed to be quite with it. A cool-headed professional in every respect. Notice he doesn't offer any frightened commentary about anything and only discussed his camera work.

Lots of suppressing fire from the M-4's, the 240 and the Deuce, but I didn't see a lot of aimed shots.

  2. Thanks Orion for your comment.

I completely concur with your observations. When I watched the video, I was telling myself that Lara Logan does not belong there.
