Pakistani Taliban Put On U.S. List Of Terror Organizations

U.S. Adds Pakistani Taliban To Terror List -- Wall Street Journal

WASHINGTON—The Obama administration designated the Pakistani Taliban a terrorist group and prosecutors filed criminal charges against its leader, legal moves aimed at battling militants blamed for two major plots against the U.S. in recent months.

U.S. counterterrorism officials say the group, which is also known as the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP, financed and provided training to the suspect who attempted the failed May 1 bombing in New York's Times Square. The group claimed responsibility for that attempt and the Dec. 30 suicide bombing that killed seven Central Intelligence Agency employees at a base near Khost, Afghanistan.
