Corps Searches For Improved Body Armor -- Marine Times

Advanced vests would be used by MARSOC and recon Marines.

The Marine Corps is searching for new armor that will be issued to elite Marines on the toughest of missions, acquisition officials said.

Developed by U.S. Special Operations Command, SPEAR soft armor would be fielded to reconnaissance Marines and special operators “whose missions and requirements parallel” those in SOCOM, which includes Navy SEALs, Army Rangers and others. Typically, the only Marines currently using SPEAR armor are assigned to Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, and they receive the gear as required by SOCOM, said 2nd Lt. Jamie Larson, a spokeswoman with Marine Corps Systems Command, out of Quantico, Va.

My Comment: The marines are not the only ones who are trying to improve their body armor .... the Brits have proposed their own improvements.
