he stories from the Mexico drug wars have been horrific: More than 45,000 people have been killed since 2006, and the reign of terror has included kidnappings, beheadings, murders of civilians and officials, and the dumping of bodies in broad daylight.

My Comment: The statistic that caught my eye was the following ....

.... More than 45,000 people have been killed since 2006, and the reign of terror has included kidnappings, beheadings, murders of civilians and officials, and the dumping of bodies in broad daylight.

After 5 years the toll is now 45,000 killed and climbing .... a truly jaw dropping statistic.
