On a cold, grey February morning in 2006, Capt Richard Holmes led a BBC film crew through the streets of Amarah in southern Iraq.

The normally bustling town was eerily still, and the locals threw furtive, unfriendly glances at the convoy as it passed.

Holmes, well aware of his duty to impress upon the British media that the reconstruction of Iraq was a success, did his best to sound upbeat.

My Comment: This story .... like many others that I have read and posted over the years .... reminds me of the saying .... the road to hell is always paved with good intentions.
