Egypt's Former President Mubarak Near Death

Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is wheeled out of the courtroom after his trial in Cairo on June 2.

The two sons of Hosni Mubarak have been moved to his bedside after the former Egyptian president's heart briefly stopped beating, according to officials.

A defibrillator twice had to be used on Mr Mubarak as he lay in the Tora prison hospital in Cairo after doctors were unable to find a pulse, they said.

He is said to have gone into a fast decline since being transferred to the prison after receiving a life sentence on June 2 for complicity in the deaths of hundreds of protesters shot during the uprising that led to his overthrow in February last year.

He has lost the will to live. He will probably be gone within the next week or two.
