My Comment: The Japanese do not have the numbers .... so they better have the quality.
I'm reminded of WWII, where the Germans had the quality.
The Russians and Americans had the quantity.
There was an interview with a Tiger Panzer commander. When asked about facing Sherman tanks he scoffed, "Ha! My Tiger was worth TEN Shermans." He paused, looked sad, and said, "But there always seemed to be that eleventh Sherman."
The Chinese can count. They can do math. They know exactly how many missiles it will take to saturate the air defense umbrella of a SAG - and they can launch a boatload of cheaper, slower missiles and let us happily swat them from the sky and then launch high-mach ship killers.
They also have a lot of lovely Diesel electric subs that, apparently, the US Navy is not capable of detecting reliably. More missiles and torpedoes; Likely while the other missiles are arriving. They're more than capable of doing a TOT attack as well.
And apparently, their navy now rivals the USN in size, including large numbers of missile boats, corvettes, frigates, etc. Not to mention the shore installations.
Meanwhile, we have incredibly expensive ships we cannot afford to risk, incredibly expensive aircraft we cannot afford to risk, and relatively few pilots that we cannot afford to risk. The Chinese have large numbers of all of the above that they can EASILY afford to risk.
All I can say is that the USN better be even more skilled and luckier than even THEY Think they are. The JMSDF hasn't a hope in hell.
