Cyprus has sunk into the sea. Well, maybe not actually sunk in a drowning sense, but that is certainly what happened to Cyprus as an offshore centre — the once highly-touted “offshore gateway” for the Russian wealthy.
Yes, I remember the heady days of 1997 when Cyprus first burst onto the offshore scene at the London Shorex (short for “Offshore Exhibition”), offering grand exhibition booths for its offshore service providers next to those of Switzerland, the Channel Islands and various Caribbean havens.
