WNU Editor: We are now seeing the worse case scenario start to unfold in eastern Ukraine. The entire region is already deeply divided .... this military operation is only going to inflame tensions and distrust even more. As to why Kiev decided to move now .... I can only guess that they had no choice. Yesterday's violent seizure of key government buildings in Luhansk forced them to act .... because if they did not the momentum by pro-Russian separatists to seize even more buildings and cities would only accelerate.
For the moment the Ukraine military is operating on the outskirts of Slavyansk. In the event that the military does launch an operation to retake the city .... I expect bloodshed that would make the Maiden protests and bloodshed that occurred in Kiev in February minor in comparison.Everyone in Ukraine above the age of 25 has had military training. Everyone has access to weapons, and they all know how to use them .... even sophisticated weapons like anti-aircraft and anti-armor missiles.
On a personal note .... I am deeply saddened to see what is happening in Ukraine. This impacts the family that I have in Ukraine, my friends, and .... the memories that I have of eastern Ukraine. The prospect of mass destruction and devastation is hard for me to contemplate on .... but that is where we are today.
I joke around a lot on here but I'm sorry and hope your friends and family are and stay safe..... Do you think putin will now send troops in?
