Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov Sees Ukraine Sliding Into A Civil War



Ukraine Slides Deeper Toward War as Russia Warns on Vote -- Bloomberg

Russia’s foreign minister said Ukraine is sliding into a civil war that could make it impossible to hold legitimate elections, as Ukrainian leaders and their international allies blamed Russia for the violence.

“When Ukrainians kill Ukrainians, I believe it’s as close to civil war as you can get,” Sergei Lavrov told Bloomberg Television yesterday in an interview in Moscow. “In the east and south of Ukraine, there is a war, a real war, with heavy weaponry used, and if this is something that is conducive to free and fair elections, then I don’t understand something about freedom.”

  2. You are right about Lavrov James.

    I listen to Lavrov because he has the ear of Putin, he has access to all of the files and intel that Putin has, and he is always blunt in his remarks. And when the Kremlin wants to send a message .... he is always their frontman.

    He reminds me of a former Soviet foreign Minister (Andrei Gromyko) .... who also so happens to be a distant cousin on my father's side. I was young when I met Gromyko .... and what I remember about him is that he was always blunt, serious, thoughtful, super sharp, analytical, and a Soviet patriot. In short .... we never got along. I suspect that Lavrov is of the same cloth.
