Gaza Fighting Flares, Netanyahu And U.N. Chief Spar On Truce Terms -- Reuters
(Reuters) - A fragile truce in Gaza for the Muslim Eid al-Fitr festival was fraying on Monday as Israel's prime minister said United Nations calls for a long-term ceasefire ignored his country's security needs.
Israeli forces said they were firing only when fired upon while army engineers hunted infiltrator tunnels from the Gaza Strip's eastern frontier. They accused Palestinians of firing 17 rockets across the border, causing no casualties.
Palestinian officials said seven people, at least five of them minors, were killed in Israeli strikes, bringing the Gaza death toll from the three-week-old conflict to 1,049, mostly civilians. Israel has lost 43 soldiers to Gaza fighting and another three civilians have been killed by Palestinan shelling.

As some of you may have noticed I have not been an armchair general/keyboard warrior on this topic during the conflict, I really have been sitting on my hands.
ReplyDeleteIn the mainstream media I have seen both sides of reporting, good and really really bad, but the bit that bugs me most is the mantra that is presented after the death toll.
Mostly children, mostly civilians or mostly women & children is tacked onto the end of the figure.
For Israel it is broken down as civilians and soldiers. In Gaza there is only one number and the mantra repeated afterwards.
Something is very fishy here.
Your telling me that the fifth largest army with ultra modern equipment is that incompetent that in 20 days it can only deliberately target innocent life and kill 1000 or so? Equally, if they are actually targeting Hamas then they are also incompetent for not killing any..
It's 1049, mostly civilians...
Or is it?...
This is not a dig at you Mr WNU, only the mainstream media that I am appalled with.
There are now numerous studies predominately by bloggers from the official lists published from the Gazan health ministry and also at Al Jazeera.
Apart from the many duplicate names, some even died three times and are counted in the figure, the stats showed the following:
Over 42% of those killed have been males of age 18-38 (i.e including others who could very well be combatants)
Despite comprising approximately 50% of the population, the percentage of women killed is 21%.
Despite comprising approximately 50% of the population, the percentage of children under 14 killed is 15%.

Maybe it has to do with the social media guidelines that Hamas put out for this conflict on its Government Ministry page, however the fact that mainstream media hoover it up and regurgitate it out to the masses without any real journalistic integrity of fact checking, is a travesty that should not go on.
MEMRI translated the Hamas social media guidelines, here is a teaser...
"Anyone killed or martyred is to be called a civilian from Gaza or Palestine, before we talk about his status in jihad or his military rank. Don't forget to always add 'innocent civilian' or 'innocent citizen' in your description of those killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza.
"Avoid publishing pictures of rockets fired into Israel from [Gaza] city centers. This [would] provide a pretext for attacking residential areas in the Gaza Strip. Do not publish or share photos or video clips showing rocket launching sites or the movement of resistance [forces] in Gaza.
It's a joy to read all of it if you have the time..

Mattathias ben Johanan .... I learned a long time ago to be skeptical on what the main stream media reports. That is why I try my best to bring numerous press reports on any given news story. This is why your input is appreciated and always looked forward to.
ReplyDeleteMattathias,
ReplyDeleteThe MSM is to all intents and purposes the Obama administration's propaganda arm. The O's hate Israel, therefore what Hamas disseminates is gospel, what Israel says, lies, never a thought to check veracity. The women, children, innocent, and slaughter theme is a democrat/socialist technique of long standing usage. I've seen stuff this time that would have made the old (sorry WNU) Pravda and Izvestia crowd proud.
No need to apologize James about Pravda and Izvestia. We always knew that what they printed .... the opposite was actually the truth.
