NATO Welcomes Putin's Ukrainian Crisis Settlement Plan -- RIA Novosti
MOSCOW, September 4 (RIA Novosti) - NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that the organization welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s plan on the settlement of the crisis in Ukraine as an effort to solve it peacefully.
“On the so-called [Putin’s] peace plan, let me stress that we welcome all efforts to find a peaceful solution to the crisis in Ukraine,” Rasmussen said.
However, he added that, “We continue to call on Russia to pull back its troops from Ukrainian borders, stop the flow of weapons and fighters into Ukraine, stop the support for armed militants in Ukraine and engage in a constructive political process.”

My Comment: I hope that these reports are true. There has been enough destruction and death in this war .... any continuation would only prolong the suffering. What has helped is that the situation on the ground has changed into one in which the rebels .... now backed openly by Russia .... have the means to push back against any Ukraine military incursion. In short .... the time has now come for this conflict to shift away from the military commanders on the ground to the politicians and diplomats.
Update #3: The mainstream Western media is now picking up on this development .... Ukraine and rebels to seek peace plan, ceasefire on Friday (Reuters).
